TL;DR: In this article, the authors used a 3D model to model the three-dimensional distribution of migration pathways within the petroleum system using a program based on the parameters discussed in this paper.
Abstract: Petroleum migration pathways through a basin are determined by the three-dimensional distribution of discontinuous sealing surfaces, which are usually parallel to bedding. The petroleum migrates below the sealing surface, taking the structurally most advantageous route. The three-dimensional distribution of migration pathways within the petroleum system can be modeled on a personal computer using a program based on the parameters discussed in this paper. Application of the model to the Paris and Williston basins demonstrates that a good correlation between predicted pathways and discovered accumulations can be made using simple models. Pathways form a dense network overlying generating areas in the central parts of basins. Toward the basin margins these routes commonly become increasingly focused into discrete pathways by the sealing-surface morphologies. Eventually, these pathways may reach the surface as seepages. It is important to integrate surface outcrops of migration routes (surface seepages) into migration modeling. Deflection of the pathways from the structurally most advantageous route below the sealing surface may be caused by lateral sealing barriers due to facies variation in the carrier rock below the seal, fault juxtaposition, or cross-formational seals such as salt intrusions. Deflection of pathways also occurs where there are hydrodynamic conditions in response to topography-driven groundwater flow. Zones of vertical migration are associated with facies changes along the horizon of the sealing surface into a nonsealing facies, or juxtaposition to nonsealing strata by faults. Vertical migration from either normally or abnormally pressured strata is most likely to occur into normally or lesser pressured strata at intrabasinal highs where hydrocarbons can be stored and transferred at times of temporary seal rupture. Reverse modeling of individual pathways from fields and seepages to potential sources is a powerful exploration tool. It assists in predicting the boundaries of the leaking accumulations or areas of petroleum expulsion.

TL;DR: In this article, a fine image data created and output by a personal computer is input to an image processing/dividing section 4, which determines, on the basis of parameters stored in a projector arrangement storage 5, which portion of the image data 2 is output to which projector, thereby performing a predetermined processing.
Abstract: In a system according to the invention, fine image data 2 created and output by a personal computer 1 is input to an image processing/dividing section 4. The image processing/dividing section 4 determines, on the basis of parameters stored in a projector arrangement storage 5, which portion of the fine image data 2 is output to which projector, thereby performing a predetermined processing. Digital signals from the image processing/dividing section 4 are input to a plurality of D/A converters 6, respectively, where the signals are converted to analog signals. Images in the form of the analog signals are projected onto a screen 8 from projectors 7 a -7 d. Thus, the image projected on the screen 8 is constituted of accurately positioned images, and hence is a very fine image.

TL;DR: Disclosed is a method of utilizing a public switched telecommunications network which includes a voice messaging system (VMS) to provide a reliable and flexible notification service to deliver to designated persons a message which may be prestored or created at the time of initiating the notification as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of utilizing a public switched telecommunications network which includes a voice messaging system (VMS) to provide a reliable and flexible notification service to deliver to designated persons a message which may be prestored or created at the time of initiating the notification. The list of persons to be notified is pre-established and permits multiple telephone numbers to be used to locate a single person or an alternate person. Pagers may be simultaneously or sequentially called requesting that the desired person call in for their message. The list of persons to be notified may be changed by the system coordinator from any DTMF telephone and the telephone numbers or pager numbers assigned to persons to be notified may be changed by such persons from any DTMF telephone. Alternatively the list may be created or changed by the coordinator using a personal computer or ASCII data type device. The system automatically reports the results of a notification session to the coordinator and automatic billing is provided. The service includes establishment of redundant data bases in different geographic locales for added reliability.

TL;DR: In this paper, a temperature measurement subject mount device (1) is mounted on a measurement subject, which is in the form of a pliable sheet with one lateral surface being viscous and with a hole formed therein, has a temperature data detection means for detecting the temperature inside the hole.
Abstract: A temperature measuring device that allows even old persons, babies and little children or infants to obtain a correct clinical temperature value and that can be constructed as a disposable type as the need arises and makes correct temperature measurement possible in real time; and a temperature measuring method. A temperature measurement subject mount device (1) to be mounted on a temperature measurement subject, which is in the form of a pliable sheet with one lateral surface being viscous and with a hole formed therein, has a temperature data detection means for detecting the temperature inside the hole, power being supplied by receiving electric waves from a reader 2 that is an outside device, such power being used for temperature measurement in the temperature measurement subject mount device (1), the measurement result being sent by electric waves as the temperature measurement subject temperature and ID data to the reader 2. The reader 2 is constructed to be connectible to an unillustrated personal computer, in which data processing is effected as the need arises.

TL;DR: In this article, the mass attenuation coefficient of carbon was measured by laboratories participating in the International Union of Crystallography X-ray Attenuation Project and the data were self consistent to 0.5% for the energy range 6 to 60 keV.
Abstract: Measurements are reported of the mass attenuation coefficient of carbon taken by laboratories participating in the International Union of Crystallography X-ray Attenuation Project. Data resulting from a similar study using silicon were published earlier [Creagh & Hubbell (1987). Acta Cryst. A43, 102-112]. The data are self consistent, for the most part, to 0.5% for the energy range 6 to 60 keV, and accords well with earlier experimental data. These data are about 3% less than the theoretically calculated data [Saloman & Hubbell (1986). X-ray Attenuation Coefficients (Total Cross Sections). Comparison of the Experimental Data Base with the Recommended Values of Henke and the Theoretical Values of Scofield from 0.1 to 100 keV. Report NBSIR 86-3431. US Department of Commerce, NBS, Gaithersburg, MD, USA; Berger & Hubbell (1987). XCOM. Photon Cross Sections on a Personal Computer. Report NBSIR 87-3597. US Department of Commerce, Gaithersburg, MD, USA] over the energy range for which measurements were made. Hence carbon appears to be an example in which the renormalization, always a decrease, of Scofield's photo-effect calculations [Scofield (1973). Report UCRL-51236. Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, Livermore, California, USA], as was implemented by Hubbell [Int. J. Appl. Radiat. Isot. (1982), 33, 1269-1290], would improve agreement with measured data.
