TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a networked system for identifying an individual, communicating information to the individual, and remotely monitoring the individual using a remotely programmable apparatus (RPA) connected to the server via a communication network.
Abstract: The invention presents a networked system for identifying an individual, communicating information to the individual, and remotely monitoring the individual. The system includes a server and a workstation for entering in the server queries to be answered by the individual. The server is preferably a web server and the workstation is preferably a personal computer or remote terminal connected to the server via the Internet. The system also includes a remotely programmable apparatus connected to the server via a communication network, preferably the Internet. The remotely programmable apparatus interacts with the individual in accordance with a script program received from the server. The server includes a script generator for generating the script program from the queries entered through the workstation. The script program is received and executed by the remotely programmable apparatus identify the individual, to communicate the queries to the individual, to receive responses to the queries, and to transmit the responses from the remotely programmable apparatus to the server. Identification of the individual can also be achieved via a data card, a remote monitoring device, or the interception of data from a separate information system. As the present invention has multi-user capabilities, it can be used in a public place, such as a pharmacy or health care clinic. The multi-user capabilities also allow collection and tracking of user data for the healthcare industry.

TL;DR: In this article, a portable medical diagnostic system for checking measurement of blood glucose, urea nitrogen, hemoglobin, blood components or other body qualities is described, which includes the engagement of a disposable needle or lance probe package which carries a chemical reagent strip such as blood reacting chemistry.
Abstract: Hand-held shirt-pocket portable medical diagnostic system for checking measurement of blood glucose, urea nitrogen, hemoglobin, blood components or other body qualities. The system includes the engagement of a disposable needle or lance probe package which carries a chemical reagent strip such as blood reacting chemistry. The system includes a pen structure having a visual readout, a microcomputer, and photosensing circuitry which measures the change of color of the blood reacting chemistry of the disposable probe package. The pen also includes a spring arrangement for actuating a needle or lance into the skin for transferring blood from a finger or other area to the chemical reagent strip. A disposable probe structure package includes configurations for transferring of the blood to the reagent strip or the reagent strip to the blood. The pen can also create a vacuum about a time period that the needle is penetrating the skin. The system includes a verification sequence of the electronics, the chemistry of an unused disposable probe package, the presence of blood sample and multiple readings to average results. The system can also be provided with provisions for storing a plurality of readings, communicating with a personal computer, and can act as an alarm and chime to indicate time periods for blood sensing.

TL;DR: In this article, a method and apparatus for automatic processing a loan, including completion of the application, underwriting, and transferring funds, includes use of a programmed computer (34) to interface with an applicant, obtain the information needed to process the loan, determine whether to approve the loan and effect electronic fund transfers to the applicant's deposit account and arrange for automatic withdrawals to repay the loan.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for closed loop, automatic processing a loan, including completion of the application, underwriting, and transferring funds, includes use of a programmed computer (34) to interface with an applicant, obtain the information needed to process the loan, determine whether to approve the loan, and effect electronic fund transfers to the applicant's deposit account and arrange for automatic withdrawals to repay the loan. Information is received from the applicant preferably by using voice recognition technology (30) but alternatively by entering the alpha-numeric information using a personal computer (34) keyboard or using buttons on a telephone (12). The loan approval determination is made using a neural network (17) with input obtained in part from the applicant and in part from databases (14) accessed by the computer (34), such as a credit bureau (16), to obtain a credit report. The loan agreement is transmitted by facsimile to and from the applicant when the applicant has access to a facsimile machine (18) of data field to be printed (37) or to an agent (22) who delivers the agreement to the applicant when the applicant does not have access. In a preferred embodiment, the applicant accesses the computer (34) from a kiosk (40) where the complete transaction can take place as the applicant waits.

TL;DR: In this paper, a GPS-based personal athletic performance monitor for providing an athlete with real time athletic performance feedback data such as elapsed exercise time, distance covered, average pace, elevation difference, distance to go, and/or advice for reaching preset targets.
Abstract: This invention is a Global Positioning System (GPS) based personal athletic performance monitor for providing an athlete with real time athletic performance feedback data such as elapsed exercise time, distance covered, average pace, elevation difference, distance to go, and/or advice for reaching preset targets. The monitor is integrated with an AM/FM/TV personal radio (607), and the athletic performance feedback is provided through a set of audio headphones (202) using an audio module (606). The monitor can be connected to an external personal computer (701) via a serial (118) or infrared port (124) for further data storage, for long term trend analysis, or to a remote computer via modem (613), where historical performance data is collected, and logically compiled from participating athletes worldwide. Results are then transferred to an Internet web site which displays comparison data representing the relative performances of two or more athletes, provides customized individual training advice, virtual competitions, and an opportunity for advertisers to reach highly well defined potential customers.
