TL;DR: A parallelized high performance computing board for computer-generated hologram, named HORN-5 board, where four large-scale field programmable gate array chips were mounted, realized a real-time reconstruction of electroholography.
Abstract: In electroholography, a real-time reconstruction is one of the grand challenges. To realize it, we developed a parallelized high-performance computing board for computer-generated hologram, named HORN-5 board, where four large-scale field programmable gate array chips were mounted. The number of circuits for hologram calculation implemented to the board was 1,408. The board calculated a hologram at higher speed by 360 times than a personal computer with Pentium4 processor. A personal computer connected with four HORN-5 boards calculated a hologram of 1,408×1,050 made from a three-dimensional object consisting of 10,000 points at 0.0023 s. In other words, beyond at video rate (30 frames/s), it realized a real-time reconstruction.

Abstract: A new multiparametric device (RBC-7) was used for recording cough in ambulatory children over a 24 hour period. The number of coughs and the pattern of coughing can easily be studied with the aid of a personal computer and dedicated computer software. Forty one 'normal' children were recorded, identified from a primary school with the aid of a questionnaire. They were free from any respiratory infection for one month, and had a normal examination and spirometry immediately before recording. Cough frequency was 11.3, range 1 to 34, cough episodes per 24 hours. This was unaffected by passive smoking or the presence of furry pets in the home. Nocturnal and prolonged coughing was unusual in these children. The device was highly acceptable to the children, and no adverse effects were reported. Such objective data on cough outside the laboratory setting are unique, help to determine what is normal, and may help in the diagnosis and assessment of many respiratory diseases.

TL;DR: A system for communicating with a card distribution center (40) for selecting, ordering, and sending social expression cards (120) using a personal computer is described in this paper, where the user can enter names (130) and addresses (135) of card recipients into the system wherein the information is maintained in a recipient database.
Abstract: A system for communicating with a card distribution center (40) for selecting, ordering, and sending social expression cards (120) using a personal computer (5). The user can enter names (130) and addresses (135) of card recipients into the system wherein the information is maintained in a recipient database (90). The system displays digitized images of the cards (figures 8 and 9) on a display screen (10) which are retrieved from a card database (110). From the cards displayed, the user can select cards for designated recipients and enter personalized messages (1065) and a digitized signature (1070). The user may then send the order to a card distribution center (40), which processes the order, retrieves and prints the selected card images, including any user messages or user signature, and mails the cards to designated recipients or customers (figure 11). The system maintains a database of all recipients (130), addresses (135), associated occasions and dates (100), card preferences (145), relationships (111, 112) and order history (105).

TL;DR: A software system for pathological voice analysis and screening of laryngeal diseases that has the following properties: a) the analysis is totally noninvasive-the microphone is about 30 cm from the patient's mouth, and contact microphones or laryngophones are not used.
Abstract: The authors propose a software system for pathological voice analysis and screening of laryngeal diseases that has the following properties: a) The analysis is totally noninvasive-the microphone is about 30 cm from the patient's mouth, and contact microphones or laryngophones are not used. b) The system is built around a low-cost personal computer (PC). The additional hardware consists of a standard sound card such as "Sound Blaster" (Creative Technology Inc., Paris, France). The card also includes a microphone. Any other analog-to-digital converter board allowing a sampling rate higher than 16 kHz, with 16 bit resolution (Sound Blaster and OROS have been already tested), and a linear phase condenser or electret microphone can be used to minimize the distortions during capture of the signal. c) The software is graphics-driven and user-friendly, therefore no special training is needed in using the system. d) The system is electrically safe since there is no electrical link between patient and PC.
