TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the properties of the concrete experimentally, and proposed the optimum mix design of high permeable concrete for road curb in tropical regions like Malaysia with high rainfall intensity, and found that using an optimum amount of cement replacement with crumb rubber as an additive may increase the performance of a high-permeability concrete.
Abstract: High permeable concrete is designed with high porosity, which allows water to pass through it. By considering this ability, it has been widely used for various applications including high permeable road pavement. However, to fully adopt highly permeable road pavement technology is challenging due to high cost and maintenance, besides the present engineers and contractors have insufficient expertise and experience with this technology. Henceforth, the high porosity property is highly favorable for road curb applications especially in the tropical region like Malaysia with high rainfall intensity. This paper aimed to determine the properties of the concrete experimentally, and propose the optimum mix design of high permeable concrete for road curb. The flow value and setting time of the cement paste were investigated. Next, the effects of the modified high permeable concrete with varying amount of crumb rubber on compressive strength, permeability and void ratio were also investigated. Results have revealed that the workability of the cement paste increases when the water-binder ratio and the amount of fly ash increase. Meanwhile, an increasing amount of cement ratio and crumb rubber lowers the flow value and consequently leads to lower void ratio and permeability. Besides, it has been found that the higher the compressive strength, the lower the void ratio and permeability of the concrete. The research findings support that using an optimum amount of cement replacement with crumb rubber as an additive may increase the performance a high permeable concrete. Herein, the results indicate that the mix design of the concrete studied has the potential to be applied onto the road curb.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of w/c ratio and aggregate size on the strength of pervious concrete is studied and it is revealed that the compressive strength increases as the water/cement ratio decreases up to optimum w/C ratio and with increase in volume of paste.
Abstract: Pervious concrete is a form of lightweight porous concrete, obtained by eliminating the sand from the normal concrete mix. The advantages of this type of concrete are lower density, lower cost due to lower cement content, lower thermal conductivity, relatively low drying shrinkage, no segregation and capillary movement of water. It has better insulating characteristics than conventional concrete because of the presence of large voids. In the present study M20 pervious concrete is designed by ACI522R-10 design code. The effect of w/c ratio and aggregate size on the strength of pervious concrete are studied. The property of pervious concrete by replacing cement by fly ash is also studied. It is revealed that the compressive strength increases as the water/cement ratio decreases up to optimum w/c ratio and with increase in volume of paste. It is observed that cement can be effectively replaced by fly ash which reduces the cost of pervious concrete.

TL;DR: In this paper, a double-layered structure consisting of the upper part of porous concrete 1 and the lower part of ordinary concrete or a porous concrete whose concrete strength is increased.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seaweed colony creating concrete block enabling the effective adherence and growth of seaweeds under the surface of the sea, enabling the growth of a phytophagous animal such as abalone, top shell or sea urchin from its larva to a grown body, enabling the smooth cycling of the alternation of generations, and suitable for each generation, and to provide a seaweed reef thereof. SOLUTION: This concrete block has a double-layered structure 10 consisting of the upper part of porous concrete 1 and the lower part of ordinary concrete or a porous concrete whose concrete strength is increased. It enables the free adherence and growth of objective small-sized or large-sized seaweeds that the decay speed of the surface is controlled by adjusting the particle sizes of aggregates, and the compounding state of cement and mixing materials of the upper porous concrete.
