TL;DR: In this paper, a self-pumped phase conjugator (SPPC) based on backward stimulated photorefractive scattering in a BaTiO3:Ce crystal in air without any external seed beam is presented.
Abstract: We present a self‐pumped phase conjugator (SPPC) based on backward stimulated photorefractive scattering in a BaTiO3:Ce crystal in air without any external seed beam. Stable reflectivities of as much as 70% and good phase conjugate fidelity have been demonstrated in the 0°‐cut crystals. Over 50% reflectivities at 515 nm have been obtained at an incident angle between 20° and 70°. In comparison with undoped 0°‐cut and 45°‐cut crystals, the buildup time of SPPC is much faster for the same intensity.

TL;DR: In this paper, a polarisation-insensitive wavelength converter is proposed using bi-directional nondegenerate forward four-wave mixing in a lasing DFB-LD in which the lasing beams are used as pump waves.
Abstract: A polarisation-insensitive wavelength converter is proposed using bi-directional nondegenerate forward four-wave mixing in a lasing DFB-LD in which the lasing beams are used as pump waves. The converter suppresses the polarisation sensitivity of conversion efficiency to within 0.4 dB, and demonstrates a 10 Gbit/s wavelength conversion and optical phase conjugation.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that holographic speckle-free imaging is possible when a dynamic recording medium, such as a Bi(12)SiO(20) crystal, and a four-wave mixing configuration are used.
Abstract: We demonstrate that holographic speckle-free imaging is possible when a dynamic recording medium, such as a Bi12SiO20 crystal, and a four-wave mixing configuration are used. The method is based on time integration in the conjugate-image plane of N coherent images having an independent speckle pattern. We apply this concept to a real-time optical processing operation. A speckle-free time-averaged interferogram of a vibrating structure is obtained.

TL;DR: An optical interconnection method for neural networks based on mutually pumped phase conjugation in a photorefractive crystal is discussed and cross talk due to Bragg degeneracies is reduced by storing each connection weight in a continuum of angularly and spatially multiplexed volume gratings.

Cross talk due to Bragg degeneracies is reduced by storing each connection weight in a continuum of angularly and spatially multiplexed volume gratings.

TL;DR: Results of experiments investigating the effects of optical pumping and atomic motion on cw degenerate four-wave mixing in atomic sodium vapor are presented, finding distortions of the atomic velocity distribution to be essential for efficient cw generation.
Abstract: Results of experiments investigating the effects of optical pumping and atomic motion on cw degenerate four-wave mixing in atomic sodium vapor are presented The signal strength is found to decrease as (sin θ)−2, where θ is the angle between the object and pump waves; however, the linewidth for generation is Doppler free and is independent of θ Agreement is found with a simple model of the mixing process Distortions of the atomic velocity distribution (produced in our experiments by optical pumping) are found to be essential for efficient cw generation A new modulation scheme for the discrimination against background is used
