TL;DR: This study shows that the diverse surface patterns can be accounted for by two consistent gestures: 1. Interrogative intonation has a higher phrase curve than declarativeintonation; and 2. Sentence final syllables have more careful intonations and wider pitch swings in interrogative sentences.
Abstract: We model the differences between declarative and interrogative intonation in Chinese with Stem-ML, an intonation description language combined with an algorithm for translating tags into quantitative prosody. Our study shows that the diverse surface patterns can be accounted for by two consistent gestures: 1. Interrogative intonation has a higher phrase curve than declarative intonation; 2. Sentence final syllables have more careful intonation and wider pitch swings in interrogative sentences. Phrase curves of the two intonation types tend to be parallel and boundary tones are not necessary for modeling the differences between the two intonation types in Chinese.

TL;DR: A new framework to mine key phrase translations from web corpora is proposed, which achieves 46% phrase translation accuracy when using top 10 returned snippets, and 80% accuracy with 165 snippets, significantly better than several existing methods.
Abstract: Key phrases are usually among the most information-bearing linguistic structures. Translating them correctly will improve many natural language processing applications. We propose a new framework to mine key phrase translations from web corpora. We submit a source phrase to a search engine as a query, then expand queries by adding the translations of topic-relevant hint words from the returned snippets. We retrieve mixed-language web pages based on the expanded queries. Finally, we extract the key phrase translation from the second-round returned web page snippets with phonetic, semantic and frequency-distance features. We achieve 46% phrase translation accuracy when using top 10 returned snippets, and 80% accuracy with 165 snippets. Both results are significantly better than several existing methods.

TL;DR: Presented is a model of rubato, implemented in Lisp, in which expression is viewed as the mapping of musical structure into the variables of expression, based on Lardahl and Jackendoff's time-span reduction.
Abstract: Presented is a model of rubato, implemented in Lisp, in which expression is viewed as the mapping of musical structure into the variables of expression. The basic idea is that the performer uses “phrase final lengthening” as a device to reflect some internal representation of the phrase structure. The representation is based on Lardahl and Jackendoff's time-span reduction. The basic heuristic in the model is recursive involving look-ahead and planning at a number of levels. The planned phrasings are superposed beat by beat and the output from the program is a list of durations which could easily be adapted to be sent to a synthesiser given a suitable system.

TL;DR: This work tested the effectiveness of an existing program, for phrase extraction, FASIT, in the SMART retrieval environment, and found it to be effective in both the retrieval and indexing of phrases.
Abstract: In keeping with our interest in answering the simple question or whether syntactic phrase indexing seales up to large databases, we tested the effectiveness of an existing program, for phrase extraction, FASIT, in the SMART retrieval environment

TL;DR: In this article, a system and method for verifying the identity of a user to a secure website was proposed, where the user provides a server associated with the secure website with an account identifier, a biometric authentication element comprising a voice print and secret pass phrase, and contact information for a user communication device during the enrollment process.
Abstract: A system and method for verifying the identity of a user to a secure website. The user provides a server associated with the secure website with an account identifier, a biometric authentication element comprising a voice print and secret pass phrase, and contact information for a user communication device during the enrollment process. Upon subsequent attempts to access the secure website the user is prompted to provide an account identifier. Upon receipt of the account identifier, the server transmits a request for voice print and pass phrase samples to the user's communication device. The server receives the samples, compares them to the user's stored voice print and pass phrase and authenticates the user to the secure website if the sample voice print and sample pass phrase match the stored voice print and pass phrase sample. The server request may comprise a sponsored message. Additionally, the server may request the user speak a pass phrase comprising an advertiser's slogan, product name, or company name.
