TL;DR: Interestingly, as KN failed to induce jasmonic acid (JA) inducible genes, and had almost no effect on accumulated endogenous JA level due to wounding by cut, KN might act through a yet unknown (and JA-independent) pathway.

TL;DR: Botrytis fabae and B. cinerea produce discrete brown lesions on the leaves of bean (Vicia faba); but in high humidity the lesions caused by B. fabae spread although those caused byB.
Abstract: Botrytis fabae and B. cinerea produce discrete brown lesions on the leaves of bean (Vicia faba); but in high humidity the lesions caused by B. fabae spread although those caused by B. cinerea do not. Attempts to explain this difference in terms of interactions between the cell-wall hydrolysing enzymes of the fungi and the phenolic compounds of the host failed1. Muller2 suggested that abnormal metabolites, called phytoalexins, are formed when plant cells are invaded by fungi. Phytoalexins are fungitoxic and may be part of the defence system of the plant. Cruickshank and Perrin3 isolated from infected pea tissue a phytoalexin, called pisatin, which was fungistatic at the concentrations in which it appeared in the infection drops. Non-pathogens of peas caused the formation of pisatin in concentrations above its ED50 value, and pathogens that of pisatin below its ED50 value toward the fungi in these two groups in vitro4.

TL;DR: As expected, arachidonic acid, its hydrolysable esters, and eicosapentaenoic acid elicited much higher HR than the other PUFA tested, although the latter were equally affected by potato 5-lipoxygenase.
Abstract: A GC-MS procedure was carried out for the simultaneous and unequivocal quantitation of both potato phytoalexin (rishitin and lubimin) accumulation and the rate of disappearance of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and some of their esters tested as possible elicitors. Potato 5-lipoxygenase and lipolytic acyl hydrolase play a key role in hypersensitive response (HR) induction. As expected, arachidonic acid, its hydrolysable esters, and eicosapentaenoic acid elicited much higher HR than the other PUFA tested, although the latter were equally affected by potato 5-lipoxygenase. Hydroxyl radicals appear to be actively involved in the browning process. The polyaminoacid poly-L-lysine did not show any eliciting activity. © 1992 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

TL;DR: The spraying of the SMS extracts clearly suppressed the development of lesions caused by Py.
Abstract: We investigated the effect of treatment with hot water extracts from the spent mushroom substrates (SMSs) of Lentinula edodes and Hypsizygus marmoreus on the resistance of rice leaves to Pyricularia oryzae infection. The spraying of the SMS extracts clearly suppressed the development of lesions caused by Py. oryzae infection. The accumulation of phytoalexins momilactones A and B, oryzalexin A, and sakuranetin was markedly induced by the spraying of extracts. The enhanced expression of defense related genes PR1b and PBZ was also found in leaves sprayed with the extracts. Treatments with the extracts also affected phytohormone levels. The levels of N6-(Δ2-isopentenyl)adenine and trans-zeatin markedly increased in response to treatment, whereas the levels of salicylic and jasmonic acids were largely unchanged.
