TL;DR: In this paper, the theory, design, geometry, and manufacture of all types of gears and gear drives are discussed, including modified spur and helical gears, face-gear drives, and cycloidal pumps.
Abstract: This revised, expanded, edition covers the theory, design, geometry and manufacture of all types of gears and gear drives. This is an invaluable reference for designers, theoreticians, students, and manufacturers. This edition includes advances in gear theory, gear manufacturing, and computer simulation. Among the new topics are: 1. New geometry for modified spur and helical gears, face-gear drives, and cycloidal pumps. 2. New design approaches for one stage planetary gear trains and spiral bevel gear drives. 3. An enhanced approach for stress analysis of gear drives with FEM. 4. New methods of grinding face gear drives, generating double crowned pinions, and improved helical gear shaving. 5. Broad application of simulation of meshing and TCA. 6. New theories on the simulation of meshing for multi-body systems, detection of cases wherein the contact line on generating surfaces may have its own envelope, and detection and avoidance of singularities of generated surfaces.

TL;DR: An improved surgical stapler as mentioned in this paper includes a driver and an anvil associated with the staple track for forming each of the staples thereon, and a pinion is operatively connected to the trigger and is movably engaged with the feeder, such that the indexing member and the pinion advance the driver and the staples toward the anvil.
Abstract: An improved surgical stapler includes a stapler body having a driver and a magazine connected to the stapler body. The magazine includes a staple track for carrying a plurality of staples and an anvil associated with the staple track. The anvil has a staple forming surface for forming each of the staples thereon. A trigger is operatively connected to the driver for advancing the driver against the anvil so as to form the staple against the staple forming surface of the anvil. A feeder for feeding each of the staples from the staple track to the anvil is movably mounted in the magazine. A pinion is operatively connected to the trigger and is movably engaged with the feeder. An indexing member is movably engaged with the pinion such that the indexing member and the pinion advance the feeder and the staples toward the anvil upon an actuation of the trigger.

TL;DR: In this article, an end effector, first cam gear, second cam gear and a lock bar are rotated through a first range of motion to unlock the lock bar relative to the second gear.
Abstract: An apparatus comprises a body and a shaft assembly. The shaft assembly is in communication with the body and comprises an end effector, first cam gear, second cam gear, and a lock bar. The end effector has an articulation joint. The first cam gear is rotatably positioned within the shaft assembly. The second cam gear is in communication with the end effector at the articulation joint. The lock bar is distally biased to lock against the second cam gear. The first cam gear is rotatable through a first range of motion to unlock the lock bar relative to the second cam gear. The first cam gear is rotatable through a second range of motion to rotate the end effector at the articulation joint.

TL;DR: In this article, a small-sized differential gear provided with both differential limiting and locking functions simultaneously without markedly modifying the conventional differential case is presented, where the differential case comprises a differential mechanism having a differential case, pinion shafts, and two side gears, etc.
Abstract: To realize a small-sized differential gear provided with both differential limiting and locking functions simultaneously without markedly modifying the conventional differential case, the differential gear comprises a differential mechanism having a differential case, pinion shafts, pinion gears, two side gears, etc.; two frictional multiplate clutches disposed between the two side gears and two inner side wall surfaces of the differential case, respectively for limiting differential function; a lock clutch disposed within the differential case for generating two opposite direction thrust forces to engage said limit multiplate clutches into engagement and further locking the differential function; and actuator for actuating the lock clutch from outside of the differential case.

TL;DR: An end curving device for an endoscope of a type having a pair of wires connected at one end to a curving end portion of the endoscope adapted to be inserted into a body cavity, and an operating lever in an operating section which pushes and pulls the wires upon manual activation by the operator is described in this paper.
Abstract: An end curving device for an endoscope of a type having a pair of wires connected at one end to a curving end portion of the endoscope adapted to be inserted into a body cavity, and an operating lever in an operating section which pushes and pulls the wires upon manual activation by the operator. An internal gear is formed on the shaft of the operating lever and is rotatably supported in the operating section. First and second pinions, which are made integral with one another, are engaged with respective racks to which the wires are coupled. The first pinion is engaged with the internal gear.
