TL;DR: Two polarization-independent Michelson fiber interferometers were used to measure the in-band OSNR of an optical signal from 5 to 30 dB within an accuracy of 0.5 dB using an expansion of the amplitude autocorrelation function of the signal around zero delay.
Abstract: Two polarization-independent Michelson fiber interferometers with different optical delays were used to measure the in-band OSNR of an optical signal from 5 to 30dB within an accuracy of 0.5dB. Using an expansion of the amplitude autocorrelation function of the signal around zero delay, it was possible to perform measurements without any prior knowledge of the signal. The system is shown to be immune to the effects of modulation frequency (up to 10G), partially and fully polarized noise, chromatic dispersion and poorly biased modulators.

TL;DR: In this article, a semi-analytical solution of the coupled linear differential equations that describe the linear mode coupling arising in few-mode fibers due to waveguide imperfections is presented.
Abstract: This paper reviews and extends a method for the semi-analytical solution of the coupled linear differential equations that describe the linear mode coupling arising in few-mode fibers due to waveguide imperfections The semi-analytical solutions obtained proved to be accurate when compared to numerical solution methods These solutions were integrated into a multisection model with split-steps for mode dispersion and mode coupling Simulations using this model matched the analytical predictions for the statistics of group-delays in few-mode fiber links, considering different coupling regimes with and without mode delay management

TL;DR: In this paper, a robust in-service estimation of fiber channel parameters from equalizer parameters of a polarization diverse coherent receiver is presented, which is derived from a theoretical fiber channel model.
Abstract: A robust in-service estimation of fiber channel parameters from equalizer parameters of a polarization diverse coherent receiver is presented. The equations used for estimation are evolved from a theoretical fiber channel model. The theory is validated based on simulations and data from transmission experiments.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the time and frequency domain behavior of polarization mode dispersion (PMD), including optical birefringence, mode coupling in long optical fibers, and the Principal States Model.
Abstract: This introduction covers concepts important to the understanding of polarization mode dispersion (PMD), including optical birefringence, mode coupling in long optical fibers, the Principal States Model, and the time and frequency domain behavior of PMD. Other topics addressed include the concatenation rules, bandwidth of the Principal States, PMD statistics and scaling, PMD system impairments, and PMD outage probability calculations.
