TL;DR: In this article, the relationship of linear polarizations of pairs of photons was measured with time-varying analyzers, and the results were in good agreement with quantum mechanical predictions but violate Bell's inequalities by 5 standard deviations.
Abstract: Correlations of linear polarizations of pairs of photons have been measured with time-varying analyzers. The analyzer in each leg of the apparatus is an acousto-optical switch followed by two linear polarizers. The switches operate at incommensurate frequencies near 50 MHz. Each analyzer amounts to a polarizer which jumps between two orientations in a time short compared with the photon transit time. The results are in good agreement with quantum mechanical predictions but violate Bell's inequalities by 5 standard deviations.

TL;DR: This work investigated propagation of light through a uniaxial photonic metamaterial composed of three-dimensional gold helices arranged on a two-dimensional square lattice that is scalable to other frequency ranges and can be used as a compact broadband circular polarizer.
Abstract: We investigated propagation of light through a uniaxial photonic metamaterial composed of three-dimensional gold helices arranged on a two-dimensional square lattice. These nanostructures are fabricated via an approach based on direct laser writing into a positive-tone photoresist followed by electrochemical deposition of gold. For propagation of light along the helix axis, the structure blocks the circular polarization with the same handedness as the helices, whereas it transmits the other, for a frequency range exceeding one octave. The structure is scalable to other frequency ranges and can be used as a compact broadband circular polarizer.

TL;DR: A metasurface platform based on high-contrast dielectric elliptical nanoposts that provides complete control of polarization and phase with subwavelength spatial resolution and an experimentally measured efficiency ranging from 72% to 97%, depending on the exact design.
Abstract: Metasurfaces are planar structures that locally modify the polarization, phase and amplitude of light in reflection or transmission, thus enabling lithographically patterned flat optical components with functionalities controlled by design. Transmissive metasurfaces are especially important, as most optical systems used in practice operate in transmission. Several types of transmissive metasurface have been realized, but with either low transmission efficiencies or limited control over polarization and phase. Here, we show a metasurface platform based on high-contrast dielectric elliptical nanoposts that provides complete control of polarization and phase with subwavelength spatial resolution and an experimentally measured efficiency ranging from 72% to 97%, depending on the exact design. Such complete control enables the realization of most free-space transmissive optical elements such as lenses, phase plates, wave plates, polarizers, beamsplitters, as well as polarization-switchable phase holograms and arbitrary vector beam generators using the same metamaterial platform.

TL;DR: In this article, a novel reflective LCD without polarizers, which is sure to provide excellent visibility (reflectance = 50%, CR = 10:1), achieved extremely low power consumption of 10 microwatts to introduce low frequency driving without flicker and image sticking.
Abstract: We have developed a novel reflective LCD without polarizers, which is sure to provide excellent visibility (reflectance = 50%, CR = 10:1). Moreover, we have also achieved extremely low power consumption of 10 microwatts to introduce low frequency driving (less than 1Hz) without flicker and image sticking. These characteristics were realized to combine pixel memory circuit and new PNLC material.

TL;DR: In this paper, a linear polarizer or Brewster plate is placed inside the reference cavity, so that the reflected light acquires a frequency-dependent elliptical polarization, which can provide the error signal for electronic frequency stabilization without any need for modulation techniques.
Abstract: We propose a new scheme for locking the frequency of a laser to a resonant reference cavity A linear polarizer or Brewster plate is placed inside the reference cavity, so that the reflected light acquires a frequency-dependent elliptical polarization A simple polarization analyzer detects dispersion shaped resonances which can provide the error signal for electronic frequency stabilization without any need for modulation techniques
