TL;DR: The reinforced thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention includes: 50 to 90% by weight of a polycarbonate resin (A); 10 to 50% of a graft copolymer mixture (B) as discussed by the authors, which is obtained by graft-polymerizing an aromatic alkenyl compound monomer unit (a) and a vinyl cyanide compound unit (b) onto a rubber polymer.
Abstract: The reinforced thermoplastic resin composition of the present invention includes: 50 to 90% by weight of a polycarbonate resin (A); 10 to 50% by weight of a graft copolymer mixture (B) (provided that a total amount of the component (A) and the component (B) accounts for 100% by weight) which is obtained by graft-polymerizing an aromatic alkenyl compound monomer unit (a) and a vinyl cyanide compound monomer unit (b) onto a rubber polymer (B1); and 6 to 22 parts by weight of an inorganic filler (D) which has been surface-treated with a water-soluble polyamide, relative to the total of 100 parts by weight of the polycarbonate resin (A) and the graft copolymer mixture (B). There is provided a reinforced thermoplastic resin composition exhibiting excellent moldability, generates a minimal amount of gas during molding, and also being capable of improving the rigidity of the resulting molded article and the impact resistance when dropping the product.

TL;DR: In this paper, a polycarbonate backbone with disulfide-linked, hydroxyl-terminated pendant side chains was first prepared and then poly(trimethylene carbonate) or poly(l-lactide) brushes were then grafted from the terminal hyroxyl groups using an acid- or base-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization.
Abstract: We have successfully designed and synthesized polycarbonate-based brush polymers with detachable, disulfide-linked side chains. A polycarbonate backbone with disulfide-linked, hydroxyl-terminated pendant side chains was first prepared. Poly(trimethylene carbonate) or poly(l-lactide) brushes were then grafted from the terminal hydroxyl groups using an acid- or base-catalyzed ring-opening polymerization. Inspired by how cells use glutathione to mediated reduction of disulfides in cytoplasmic proteins, we also demonstrate that the side chains are easily detached under mild reductive conditions (e.g., with 1,4-dithiothreitol). l-Lactide and trimethylene carbonate were selected as model building blocks for the polymer grafts because of their commercial availability and routine use in polymeric drug delivery systems.

TL;DR: In this paper, the reactive force field (ReaxFF) method is employed in a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of polycarbonate pyrolysis to elucidate the mechanism for thermal aging at the atomic level.
Abstract: Polycarbonate (PC) is considered a promising substitute for insulating materials due to its excellent insulation and mechanical properties. The main cause for PC insulation aging is the breakage of chemical bonds at high temperatures. The reactive force field (ReaxFF) method is first employed in a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of polycarbonate pyrolysis to elucidate the mechanism for thermal aging at the atomic level. The results show that the main reaction pathway for breakage of the polycarbonate main chain is C–O bond breakage of the terminal group or between PC monomers. CO2, CO, CH4, and H2 are the major products generated following polycarbonate pyrolysis. The formation mechanisms of these dominant products are detailed for the first time based on the simulation trajectories. The activation energy and pre-exponential factor extracted from the ReaxFF simulations show good agreement with experimental results. The fracturing of the main chain and the production of small molecule gases both decreas...
