TL;DR: The thermal stabilities of eight thermoplastic polymers as well as their melting drops generated under the UL 94 vertical burning conditions were investigated by thermogravimetric experiments and it was found that the kinetic compensation effect existed for the decomposition reactions of the polymers and their drops.

TL;DR: The alternating copolymerization of biorenewable limonene dioxide with carbon dioxide (CO2) catalyzed by a zinc β-diiminate complex is reported, resulting in linear amorphous polycarbonates that carry pendent methyloxiranes and exhibit glass transition temperatures up to 135 °C.
Abstract: The alternating copolymerization of biorenewable limonene dioxide with carbon dioxide (CO2) catalyzed by a zinc β-diiminate complex is reported. The chemoselective reaction results in linear amorphous polycarbonates that carry pendent methyloxiranes and exhibit glass transition temperatures (Tg) up to 135 °C. These polycarbonates can be efficiently modified by thiols or carboxylic acids in combination with lithium hydroxide or tetrabutylphosphonium bromide as catalysts, respectively, without destruction of the main chain. Moreover, polycarbonates bearing pendent cyclic carbonates can be quantitatively prepared by CO2 insertion catalyzed by lithium bromide.

01 Feb 2001TL;DR: In this paper, Dendrimer additives incorporated in thermoplastic resins (such as polycarbonate resins) are effective to alter the surface characteristics of the thermoplastics.
Abstract: Dendrimer additives incorporated in thermoplastic resins (such as polycarbonate resins) are effective to alter the surface characteristics of the thermoplastic resin. Such compositions can be injection molded to produce articles in which the dendrimer additive is concentrated at the surface of the article to alter the properties of the resin. By selection of the type of dendrimer additive, the resulting characteristics of the molded article may be controlled.

TL;DR: In this paper, the BPA−NaOH−H 2 O system for polycarbonate synthesis is analyzed by solving the simultaneous chemical equilibria, material balances, and ionic charge balance to yield the aqueous-phase composition under arbitrary 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane (BPA) loadings and pH levels.
