TL;DR: A review of the dielectric loss spectra of polymers at microwave frequencies has been carried out in this paper, where a large volume of data for low loss polymers (polyethylene, polypropylene and poly(tetrafluoroethylene)), which are used in the communications industry, was available for review.

TL;DR: In this article, five commercially available multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), with different characteristics, were melt mixed with polycarbonate (PC) in a twin-screw micro compounder to obtain nanocomposites containing 0.25-3.0% MWNT.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the ductile brittle transition in terms of σG (the stress required to propagate the Griffith flaw), and σy, the yield stress for the polymer.
Abstract: Most thermoplastics far below their glass transition give a brittle fracture when de-formed in uniaxial tension. Bisphenol-A polycarbonates are an exception and deform in a ductile manner. However, it has been observed in Izod impact studies of notched samples that the mode of failure changes from a ductile to a brittle fracture on annealing samples below Tg. It has been found that, when notched samples are stressed, a Griffith type flaw is formed under the notch. The criterion for the ductile brittle transition is evaluated in terms of σG (the stress required to propagate the Griffith flaw), and σy, the yield stress for the polymer. It has been found that the density and yield stress for the samples annealed at various temperatures are dependent upon previous thermal history and in particular on the molecular weiAght. On the basis of these measurements, it is concluded that many of the so-called anomalous effects observed with polycarbonate can be explained.

TL;DR: In this article, the composites were rheologically characterized using an ARES-rheometer in the dynamic mode under nitrogen atmosphere at 280°C and frequency varying from 100 to 0.056 rad/s.
Abstract: In this study polycarbonate/multiwalled carbon nanotube composites were produced with different compositions by diluting a masterbatch using melt mixing in a DACA-Micro-Compounder. The composites were rheologically characterized using an ARES-rheometer in the dynamic mode under nitrogen atmosphere at 280 °C and frequency varying from 100 to 0.056 rad/s. The results showed that the dynamic moduli and the viscosity increased with increasing MWNT content. At a concentration of 0.5 wt.% MWNT, a significant change in the frequency dependence of the moduli was observed which indicates a transition from a liquid like to a solid like behavior of the nanocomposites. This transition can be related to the formation of a combined network between the nanotubes and the polymer chains.

TL;DR: In this paper, a carbon nanotube polycarbonate composites with controlled nanotubes-bundle size are prepared by dispersion with conjugated polymers followed by blending with poly carbonate.
Abstract: Carbon nanotube polycarbonate composites with controlled nanotube-bundle size are prepared by dispersion with conjugated polymers followed by blending with polycarbonate. The composite has uniform sub-micrometer nanotube bundles in high concentration, shows strong nonlinear optical absorption, and generates 193 fs pulses when used as passive mode-locker in a fiber laser.
