TL;DR: Ethanolic extracts of 61 medicinal plants used in Malaysia were screened for antiviral and cytotoxic activities and co-existing antiviral and cytOToxic activities were shown by Eugenia michelii, Mentha arvensis and Polygonum minus.
Abstract: Ethanolic extracts of 61 medicinal plants used in Malaysia were screened for antiviral and cytotoxic activities Antiviral activity was tested against the herpes simplex type-1 (HSV-1) and vesicular stomatitis (VSV) viruses, and cytotoxicity was assayed using the HeLa cell line Antiviral activity against both viruses was present in the extracts from Calotropis gigantea, Costus speciosus, Eugenia michelii, Hedyotis auricularia, Mentha arvensis, Orthosiphon aristatus, Polygonum minus and Ricinus communis (MIG: 0002-01 mg/ml) The extracts from Alternanthera sessilis, Blumea chinensis, Eleusine indica, Euphorbia hirta, Freycinetia malaccensis, Leea indica and Solanum americanum were active in selectively inhibiting HSV-1 (0001-01 mg/ml) Selective activity against VSV was shown by the extracts from Acalypha indica, Bertholletia excelsa, Cerbera manghas, Codiaeum variegatum, Plectranthus amboinicus, Centella asiatica, Mirabilis jalapa, Morinda elliptica, Oenanthe javanica, Piper sarmentosum and Premna odorata (MIG: 0005-01 mg/ml) Gytotoxic activity was present in the extracts from Acalypha indica, Andrographis paniculata, Cerbera manghas, Codiaeum variegatum, Cosmos caudatus, Elephantopus scaber, Etlingera elatior, Eugenia michelii, Freycinetia malaccensis, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis,Cen~ella asiati~a, Lecythis ollaria, Mentha arvensis, Mirabilis jalapa, Morinda elliptica, Ocimum tenUlflorum, PIper sarmentosum and Polygonum minus (CD50: 0001-01 mgjml)Co-existing antiviral and cytotoxic activities were shown by Eugenia michelii, Mentha arvensis and Polygonum minus

TL;DR: The sulfated flavonoids in Polygonum hydropiper showed potent inhibiton against lens aldose reductase and noncompetitive inhibition against both dl-glyceraldehyde and NADPH.
Abstract: The sulfated flavonoids in Polygonum hydropiper showed potent inhibiton against lens aldose reductase. Among these flavonoids isorhamnetin 3,7-disulfate (5) was most potent. Kinetic analysis showed that 5 exhibited noncompetitive inhibition against both dl-glyceraldehyde and NADPH.

TL;DR: None of the results indicated intraspecific differences with altitude in P. weyrichii var.
Abstract: The timing of seedling emergence crucially affects the fate of seedlings. Germination characteristics are therefore an important factor determining plant distribution. The aim of this study is to examine whether two species of Polygonum show different germination characteristics in relation to their altitudinal distributions (P. cuspidatum: lowland to alpine; P. weyrichii var. alpinum: mainly alpine and with a higher upper altitudinal limit than P. cuspidatum). The seeds of both species freshly collected in autumn required high temperature (350C) for germination. After winter, seeds of both species showed high germinability over a wide temperature range and the optimum temperature shifted to 20 to 250C. Response to storage differed between the two species. All the storage conditions examined (moist chilling, dry chilling and dry warm) were effective in breaking seed dormancy of P. cuspidatum, but seed dormancy of P. weyrichii var. alpinum was broken only by moist chilling. The germination at a low temperature (50C) after the winter was significantly higher in P. weyrichii var. alpinum than in P. cuspidatum. In contrast to these interspecific differences, none of our results indicated intraspecific differences with altitude in P. cuspidatum.

TL;DR: The population consisted of a relatively tolerant and a sensitive group and was indicated by differences in lifetime of plants treated with 500 mg kg-1 and by a diversification in biomass of individuals dying from treatment with 315 mgkg-1.

TL;DR: In this paper, the seeds of polygonum are sowed on the surface of a nutrition-free porous material such as a polyurethane foam sheet 6 and water is properly poured to the porus material to grow polygonus.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To readily culture and harvest polygonum to be used for a garnish of sliced raw fish, etc. CONSTITUTION:Seeds 1 of polygonum are sowed on the surface of a nutrition- free porous material such as a polyurethane foam sheet 6 and water is properly poured to the porus material to grow polygonum. The grown polygonum can be reaped by a clipper type harvester.

TL;DR: The relative frequency of some species such as Chenopodium album, Zea maiz, Solanum tuberosum, Polygonum aviculare, Ammi viznaga, Veronica persica and Taraxacum officinallis was increased in wheat crop cultivated on corn or potato, while the relative frequences of other species decreased in the same sites.
Abstract: Relative frequency of species, diversity and dominance indexes of the weed community in three wheat crops grown in field of 40 ha where wheat, corn or potato were grown int he previous season, were analyzed. The study was performed in Mar del Plata, Province of Buenos Aires (Argentina). The ocurring species were registred in each of forth 1 m2 samples distributed in a regular arrangement at each field. This was done previous to application of herbicides. Small differences between communities in floristic composition and richness were observed. But, important changes in the relative frequency of some species were observed. Stellaria media was the most frequent specie in wheat -wheat and corn-wheat sequences, and was only exceeded by Solanum tuberosum in potato-wheat sequence. The relative frequency of some species such as Chenopodium album, Zea maiz, Solanum tuberosum, Polygonum aviculare, Ammi viznaga, Veronica persica and Taraxacum officinallis was increased in wheat crop cultivated on corn or potato. On the other hand, the relative frequences of other species such as Apium leptophyllum, Polygonum convolvulus and Matricaria chamomilla decreased in the same sites, The specific changes in the relative frequences did not affect the structural indexes of weed communities, which showed a similar and high diversity index and low dominance.
