Abstract: OBJECTIVE:To determine the concentration of emodin-8-O-β-D-glucoside in Polygonum cuspidatumby HPLC. METHODS: The giant knotweed rhizome sample was pretreated by D101 macroporous adsorptive resins. The separation of sample was performed on Kromasil C18(250 mm×4.6 mm, 5μm) with column temperature set at 40 ℃. The mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile-water (40∶60) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL·min-1 and a detection wavelength of 420 nm. RESULTS: The linear range of emodin-8-O-β-D-glucoside was 5~200 μg·mL-1 with an average recovery of 98.63%(RSD=0.99%,n=6). CONCLUSION: The method applied in the study is simple, rapid, accurate, and suitable for the quality control of determination of emodin-8-O-β-D-glucoside in Polygonum cuspidatum.

Abstract: For the flowering aerial parts of Polygonum hydropiper L. species, harvested from Romanian flora, four polyphenolic acids were separated and quantified using HPTLC-UV densitometry, with ESI-MS confirmation. Chlorogenic acid was found in the highest amount, followed by ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid and caffeic acid. The content of total polyphenols and caffeic acid derivatives was determined using spectrophotometric methods. In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH assay. Our studies bring new data regarding the phytochemical profile of P. hydropiper, as a natural source of polyphenols with antioxidant properties.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A powdered dye using Polygonum tintorium leaves and a preparation method thereof are provided to exhibit high storage stability. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing a powdered dye using Polygonum tintorium leaves comprises the following steps of: preparing Polygonum tintorium leaves; squeezing the leaves to obtain a Polygonum tintorium leaf extract; and freeze-drying the Polygonum tintorium leaf extract and pulverizing it to obtain powder. In the freeze-drying step, the Polygonum tintorium leaf extract are freeze-dried at the temperature of - 75°C ~ -85°C in a freeze-drier.

CONSTITUTION: A composition for suppressing the activation of glycerol 3-phosphate dihydrogenase(GPDH) contains an extract of Saururus chinensis Baill., Polygonum multiflorum Thunberg, and Sanguisorba officinalis L. as active ingredients. The composition is used for treating or preventing obesity. A functional food for anti-obesity contains the composition for suppressing GPDH activation.
