Abstract: Application of anthraquinone compounds isolated from Polygonum multiflorum as a radiation sensitizer, its characteristics are the obtained anthraquinone compounds have the following general formula of molecular structural formula, in which, R1 is OH or OCH3, R2 is CH3, COOH or OCH3, R3 is H, OH or CH3, R4 is OH or OCH3. Anthraquinone compounds isolated from the polygonum multiflorum, has obvious effects of radiation sensitizer in vitro, especially for the human nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE-1, uterine cervix cancer Hela Cells which are insensitive to the radiation dose of 2Gy, it has significantly effect.

Abstract: Objective To observe the content's changes of free Anthraquinone in polygonum multiflorum extract produced by different dissolvent.Methods The content of free anthraquinone was determined by the magnesiujm Acetate colorinetry in 754-spectrophotometer at 498nm,after determining A.Results The average content of free anthraquinone was 0.1459in group A(90% Alcohol),0.0673 in groupB(70%Alcohol)and 0.0084 in group C(water).The content in group A is higher significantly than that in GroupB and in groud C(P0.05).Conclusions Among three schemes.A can be used to extract the free anthraquinone of ploygonun Multiflorum extract first.

Abstract: Seed dispersal in Polygonum.-REED and SMOOT26 find that Polygonum virginianum has a somewhat unique means of seed dispersal. When an object hits the rigid persistent style, the akene is violently ejected. It is found that a definite separation layer is developed, and that a considerable tension arises in the pedicel through the growth of the pith below the separation layer. This growth is sufficient to cause the compression of the pith above the layer, since the bounding vascular cells are rigid. The release of these cells from this pressure, when the akene is detached by a stroke, causes the shooting of the akenes to a distance of three or four meters.-H. C. COWLES.
