TL;DR: It is presumed that more anthocyanin could be synthesized in Polygonum seedlings in the seasons with lower temperature or higher solar radiation.
Abstract: The seedlings of benitade (Polygonuin hydropiper L.) were monthly grown in pots for 8-14 days from April to October to clarify the effect of different growing seasons on their anthocyanin content. The anthocyanin contents per plant and per mg fresh weight increased rapidly at earlier than later stages of seedlings in all growing seasons. In some months, the increase of anthocyanin content per mg fresh weight was not found in later stages. In comparison among different months, the anthocyanin contents per plant and per mg fresh weight tended to be always higher in April and particularly in May, and lower in July, August and September. The anthocyanin contents per plant and per rng fresh weight at the emergence of the first true leaf, at the commercial harvesting stage, were also higher in April and May, lower in July, August and September, being less than 60% of the former, and medium in June and October. Until eight days after the unfolding of cotyledons, with few exceptions, the anthocyanin contents per plant and per mg fresh weight were significantly correlated negatively with mean daily temperature, independently of daily solar radiation, and positively with daily solar radiation, independently of mean daily temperature. At the emergence of the first true leaf, the partial correlation coefficients between anthocyanin content per mg fresh weight and mean daily temperature, daily solar radiation, or number of days after the unfolding of cotyledons were -0.667 (P< 0.01), 0.504 (P<0.05) or -0.019 (P>0.50), respectively. In addition, cotyledons were higher in anthocyanin content than hypocotyl until the emergence of the first true leaf. From the above results, it is presumed that more anthocyanin could be synthesized in Polygonum seedlings in the seasons with lower temperature or higher solar radiation.

TL;DR: Genera and tribes in the buckwheat family have been redefined, and Persicaria (Linnaeus 1753: 360) Miller (1754), which is formerly and popularly treated as synonym of Polygonum in tribe Polygoneae, has been placed in the redefined tribe Persicarieae.
Abstract: The generic delimitation of Polygonum Linnaeus (1753: 359) has been controversial, and interpreted differently by various authors, especially in the past (Meisner 1826, Gross 1913, Tzvelev 1987). Several morphological and anatomical characters, such as in pollen (Hedberg 1946), vegetative parts (Haraldson, 1978), flower (Ronse Decraene & Akeroyd 1988), and fruit (Ronse Decraene et al. 2000), have been considered in subdividing the heterogeneous genus Polygonum into a number of smaller groups, which was also supported by recent molecular studies (Sanchez et al. 2009, Sanchez et al. 2011, Schuster et al. 2011). Genera and tribes in the buckwheat family have been redefined (Sanchez et al. 2011) and Persicaria (Linnaeus 1753: 360) Miller (1754), which is formerly and popularly treated as synonym of Polygonum in tribe Polygoneae, has been placed in the redefined tribe Persicarieae (Sanchez et al. 2011). Many combinations were already proposed to accommodate these generic changes, but six Polygonum species in the Flora of China (Li et al. 2003), have not been transferred and the new combinations in Persicaria are still necessary. Information on the types (five holotypes and one lectotype here designated) and morphological notes are also provided.

TL;DR: It is found that there are four genera of medicinal Polygonaceae plants, i.e., Antenoron, Fagopyrum, Polygonum and Rumex in Zhejiang Tiantong National Forest Park, and sixteen medicinal species found in Z hejiang Province.
Abstract: In this study, we employed the methods of field survey, literatures and consultation on local residents to survey the distribution of Polygonaceae herb resources of Zhejiang Tiantong National Forest Park. We found that there are four genera of medicinal Polygonaceae plants, i.e., Antenoron, Fagopyrum, Polygonum and Rumex in Zhejiang Tiantong National Forest Park, covering all the four genera of Polygonaceae plants found in Zhejiang Province, and sixteen medicinal species, i.e., Antenoron Filiforme, Antenoron neofiliforme, Fagopyrum dibotrys, Polygonum aviculare, Polygonum plebeium, Polygonum perfoliatum, Polygonum multiflorum, Polygonum orientale, Polygonum cuspidatum, Polygonum dissitiflorum, Polygonum hydropiper, Polygonum lapathifolium, Polygonum senticosum, Polygonum viscosum, Rumex acetosa and Rumex japonicus, accouning for approximately 32% of all the species of Polygonaceae plants found in Zhejiang Province(50 species). Our results would facilitate to the use of Polygonaceae herb resources.

TL;DR: In this paper, the chemical constituents from the rhizomes of Polygonum suffultum were investigated and the structures were identified on the basis of NMR spectroscopic data and co-TLC with authentic samples.
Abstract: Objective To investigate the chemical constituents from the rhizomes of Polygonum su-ffultum.Methods Compounds were isolated and purified by solvent extraction, silica gel, polyamide,Sephadex LH-20,and macroporous resin column chromatography, and recrystallization.Their structures were identified on the basis of NMR spectroscopic data and co-TLC with authentic samples. Results Ele-ven compounds were obtained and elucidated as neohop-13(18)-en-3β-ol(1),neohop-13(18)-en-3β-yl acetate(2),hop-17(21)-en-3β-yl acetate(3),gallic acid(4),sitosterol(5),daucosterol(6),friedelin(7),chlorogenic acid n-butyl ester(8),myricetin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(9),chlorogenic acid(10),and 4-O-caffeoyl quinic acid(11).Conclusion All compounds are reported from P.suffultum for the first time except gallic acid(4),and this is the first report on compounds 1-3,8,9,and 11 from plants of Polygonum L.Compounds 1 and 2 are reported as natural products for the first time.
