Fallopia multiflora var. angulata, a New Combination in the Polygonaceae from China

Abstract: Taxonomic evaluation of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. var. angulatum S. Y. Liu (Polygonaceae) reveals that a new combination in Fallopia Adans. is necessary, and the name F. multiflora (Thunb.) Haraldson var. angulata (S. Y. Liu) H. J. Yan, Z. J. Fang & Shi Xiao Yu is proposed. The new variety differs from the typical one by its square branchlets with longitudinal ridges that are densely papillate and by its root tubers with a greater abundance of fibers and abnormal vascular strands evident in anatomical cross section.

Method for planting polygonum multiflorum by utilizing forest land

Abstract: The invention discloses a method for planting polygonum multiflorum by utilizing forest land and relates to the technical field of herbal medicine planting. The method comprises selection of forest land, treatment of the forest land, breeding of seedlings, fertilization and weeding of the seedlings, rectification of ridges, cultivation of the seedlings, prevention of pests and diseases and harvest. According to the method, mountain or forest land is selected according to the growing environment to plant polygonum multiflorum, the land utilization rate is improved, the wild growth environment of polygonum multiflorum can be simulated, and medicinal properties of polygonum multiflorum are improved. The incidence rate of polygonum multiflorum in the growth process can be reduced by disinfecting the land before planting, the economic input in related aspects is reduced, and the polygonum multiflorum planting cost is reduced. In addition, nutrient supply of polygonum multiflorum during growth is ensured by application of farmyard manure.
