Abstract: The invention relates to automatic cut-off equipment which comprises a conveying device, a pipe pressing device, a portal frame, a cut-off device, a first feeding mechanism and two protecting covers. The portal frame comprises a portal cross beam and two portal stand columns. The two protecting covers each comprise a side cover plate and a front cover plate, wherein the side cover plate and the front cover plate are connected to form an L-shaped structure. The cut-off device is in sliding connection with the portal stand columns. The first feeding mechanism is arranged on the portal frame and connected with a cutting mechanism to control lifting of the cutting mechanism. The cut-off device comprises a driving wheel, a driven wheel, a ring-shaped blade and a first servo motor. A first steering blade torque adjuster and a second steering blade torque adjuster are arranged below the driving wheel and the driven wheel correspondingly. The pipe pressing device is arranged at the feeding end of the conveying device. The cut-off device is arranged on the sides, away from the pipe pressing device, of the portal stand columns. Compared with the prior art, machining size errors are reduced, and stability and accuracy of cutting machining are improved.

Abstract: The use of glued in rods as a method for connecting timber has received much attention over the past decade with an increasing number of examples of their use in industry. The objective of this study is to understand the failure mechanism of a moment resisting portal frame connection in timber using glued in steel rods. A series of pull out tests are used to determine axial strength of glued in rods with varying anchorage length and bond line thickness. The results are compared with the current design equations and the discrepancies are highlighted. Further pull out tests using rods glued in at angles are used to assess the influence of lateral loading on the axial pull out strength. Small amounts of lateral loading combined with axial loading are seen to significantly reduce the pull out strength of glued in rods and splitting failures are seen at relatively low levels of load. The findings from the pull out tests are used to design a portal frame connection and the moment capacity is estimated using linear elastic analysis. Results from the destructive testing of the portal frame connection are presented and parallels are drawn between the observed behaviour in the angled pull out tests. The linear elastic analysis is found to accurately predict the failure load of the tested connection. The moment rotation (M - ϕ) relationship of the portal frame connection is extracted from the measured test data.

Abstract: This paper presents the results of the study on thin walled steel portal frames, which are used in Japan as basic structural frames for motorway viaducts. A serious problem found in many such frames is the development of fatigue cracks at the beam to column connection. To act as a measure against the fatigue failure, in some cases a hole is provided at the beam-column connection of the frames. In this study, dynamic analysis using real earthquake data from 3 different earthquakes were carried out to examine the influence of such a hole on the global behavior of the frame and also on the local out of plane displacement around the location of the hole. Non-linear, large displacement analysis was performed using the FEM program MSC. Marc. The hole radius was varied and used as a parameter of study. The hole had significant effect on local out of plane displacement and global behavior, specifically when the radius of the hole was larger than 100 mm.
