TL;DR: In this article, a 3-storey R.C. framed building with hollow and solid reinforced concrete members is modeled on the ETABS software for analysis and post analysis of the structure, maximum shear forces, bending moments, and maximum storey displacement are computed and then compared for all the analyzed cases.
Abstract: Hollow (Box-type) reinforced concrete beams and columns help in decreasing superstructure weight and hence seismic mass is minimized as compared to conventional solid reinforced concrete beams and columns. ETABS is commonly used to analyses: Skyscrapers, parking garages, steel & concrete structures, low and high rise buildings, and portal frame structures. The case study in this paper mainly emphasizes on structural behavior of R.C.C. framed building having hollow and solid reinforced concrete members. Modelling of 3-storey R.C.C. framed building is done on the ETABS software for analysis. Post analysis of the structure, maximum shear forces, bending moments, and maximum storey displacement are computed and then compared for all the analyzed cases. The results indicated that the drop in storey shear, overturning moment etc. in case of hollow members as compared to solid members in R.C.C. framed building.

TL;DR: In this article, a cap sealing production line for tablet canning is described, which consists of a workbench and a pair of portal frames arranged on the workbench, wherein the inside of one portal frame adopts a cavity structure.
Abstract: The invention discloses a cap sealing production line for tablet canning. The production line comprises a workbench and a pair of portal frames arranged on the workbench, wherein the inside of one portal frame adopts a cavity structure; a transverse plate is arranged on the pair of portal frames; a counting and tablet discharging unit is arranged on the transverse plate; a conveying unit is arranged on the workbench; a stamping unit is arranged in the cavity structure of the portal frame and comprises a mold roll, an auxiliary rotating shaft and a driving clamping and conveying roller which are arranged in one supporting leg of the portal frames, an opening formed in the upper surface of a cross beam of the portal frames, a guide frame arranged on the cross beam of the portal frames, an air valve box which is arranged on the guide frame and can move in the length direction of the guide frame, a stamping mechanism and a plastic packaging machine which are arranged on the air valve box, a supporting shaft, a pair of tensioning rollers and a film winding roller which are arranged in the other supporting leg of the portal frames as well as a push mechanism arranged on one supporting leg of the portal frames. The production line has the beneficial effects of simple structure and high practicability.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated a way to model the container crane without the A-frame, while maintaining the same response in the portal frame, and designed a large scale model for a shake table experiment that investigates three failure modes previously observed in earthquakes: derailment, local buckling of the legs, and collapse.
Abstract: As container traffic increases, ships and the cranes that serve them also continue to grow. The larger size and mass of modern container cranes makes them more seismically vulnerable then their predecessors. Container cranes are essential for port operations, and economic losses from their downtime can be substantial. A container crane can be divided into three main sections: the portal frame, a second story and the A-frame. The majority of the response of a container crane to dynamic loading occurs in the portal frame. This study investigates a way to model the container crane without the A-frame, while maintaining the same response in the portal frame. Finite element models of a complete container crane and cranes with modifications to simulate the proper mass and stiffness distribution without the A-frame are created. These results are used to design a large scale model for a shake table experiment that investigates the three failure modes previously observed in earthquakes: derailment, local buckling of the legs, and collapse. TL;DR: In this paper, the problem of forming a large opening towards a frontal road even at a site having a narrow frontage was solved by disposing two columns 4 and 4 in upright in parallel while the column bases of the columns are joined with the top end of a foundation through connecting members.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a large opening towards a frontal road even at a site having a narrow frontage. SOLUTION: In built-up columns 2 for a wooden portal frame 1, the built-up columns 2 are constituted by disposing two columns 4 and 4 in upright in parallel while the column bases of the columns are joined with the top end of a foundation 6 through connecting members 5. In a built-up beam 3, the two beams of an upper-stage beam 14 and a lower-stage beam 15 are arranged in parallel, and the built-up beam 3 is stretched over the built-up columns 2 and 2 so that the underside of the upper-stage beam is abutted against the top faces of the columns 4 respectively and the end face of the lower-stage beam 15 is abutted against the side faces of the columns 4 on the insides in the columns 4 and 4. The upper-stage beam 14 and the columns 4 are drawn near mutually by drawing metallic materials 16 and joined after tenons projected from the top sections of the columns 4 are inserted into mortices formed to the underside of the upper-stage beam 14 in this case. Horizontal stiffening members 17 and 18 are inserted at the place of the height of the lower-stage beam 15 and the places of the column bases respectively between the columns 4, 4, and reinforcing plywood 21a to 21i are stuck on the fronts and rears of the built-up columns 2 and 2 and the built-up beams 3.
