TL;DR: Toxicity to fish (rainbow trout or minnows) of solutions of several pure substances has been measured under controlled conditions.
Abstract: Toxicity to fish (rainbow trout or minnows) of solutions of several pure substances has been measured under controlled conditions. The substances (sodium arsenite, sodium arsenate, sodium picrate, sodium dinitrophenate, zinc sulphate, potassium chromate, potassium dichromate, ammonium chloride, and ammonium sulphate) were dissolved in distilled water, in Watford tap water, or in mixtures of distilled water and tap water.

TL;DR: Chromium oxide nanoparticles (NPs) were rapidly synthesized by reduction of potassium dichromate solution with Arachis hypogaea leaf extract containing reducing sugars which act as reducing agent as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Chromium oxide nanoparticles (NPs) were rapidly synthesized by reduction of potassium dichromate solution with Arachis hypogaea leaf extract containing reducing sugars which act as reducing agent. The results indicated that the aldehyde groups present in the plant extract played an important role in the formation of Cr2O3 nanoparticles. The purification process of the Cr2O3 product does not require expensive methods, since a solid product is obtained from a reaction in liquid phase. The antibacterial effect of Cr2O3 nanoparticles against Escherichia coli was investigated as a model for Gram-negative bacteria. Bacteriological tests were performed in Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) medium on solid agar plates and in liquid systems supplemented with different concentrations of nanosized Cr2O3 particles. These particles were shown to be an effective bactericide. The resulting Cr2O3 nanoparticles were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), UV-VIS absorption and Fouriertransform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy.

TL;DR: In this article, the behavior of calcium aluminate cement (CAC) in presence of Cr6+ (0.5, 1.0 and 2.5%) as potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) was studied using leaching tests.
Abstract: Chromium forms part of numerous processes and its unsafe disposal increases the risk of pollution of soils and aquatic systems, especially hexavalent chromium. This paper deals with the behavior of calcium aluminate cement (CAC) in presence of Cr6+ (0.5, 1.0 and 2.5%) as potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7). The efficiency of CAC to immobilize Cr6+ was studied using leaching tests. The hydration temperature, hydration products and compressive strength of CAC in presence of Cr6+ were also investigated. Analysis of the results showed that the presence of Cr6+ strongly reduced the rate of reactions, which was related to inhibition of the consumption of anhydrous phases (calcium aluminate). However, leaching tests showed the high efficiency of CAC regarding Cr6+ immobilization (>90%), better than that presented by Portland cement. CAC also presented both the capacity for hexavalent chromium retention and its reduction.
