TL;DR: In this article, a sensitivity-based approach has been proposed to decide optimal location of the thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and unified power flow controller (UPFC).
Abstract: In emerging electric power systems, increased transactions often lead to situations where system no longer remains in the secure operating region. The flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) controllers can play an important role in the power system security enhancement. However, due to high capital investment, it is necessary to locate these controllers optimally in the power system. In this paper, a sensitivity based approach has been proposed to decide optimal location of thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and unified power flow controller (UPFC). These factors have been derived in terms of change in a real power flow performance index with respect to their control parameters. The effectiveness of the proposed controllers has been tested on IEEE 30 bus and a 246 bus practical Indian system.

TL;DR: In this article, a method for finding the response of a large power system to cyclic load variations is presented, where the waveform of the load variation is represented as a Fourier series.
Abstract: A method is presented for finding the response of a large power system to cyclic load variations. The waveform of the load variation is represented as a Fourier series. The power system is represented by a set of first-order, linear differential equations. These are solved to give the response of the system to each harmonic component, and the results combined to give the total response. Results from a sample problem are given as an example.

TL;DR: The connectivity of a 115 substation power system is determined in less than 25 milliseconds on a small industrial computer using the new algorithms.
Abstract: Two algorithms fur the determination of network connectivity and detection of islands in a power system are presented. Both algorithms are tested on a number of typical power systems. Effects of node ordering and matrix storage methods on the computation time are studied for both algorithms and the results are compared. Each algorithm proved to be more suitable under certain conditions. The results show both algorithms to be very fast. The connectivity of a 115 substation power system is determined in less than 25 milliseconds on a small industrial computer using the new algorithms.

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed bifurcation analysis of real multiparameter power systems is presented, where equilibrium points are used to evaluate the system eigenvalues, obtain different bifurlcation diagrams, and evaluate the stability for two systems (i.e., a simple theoretical system to illustrate the basic concepts and highlight the main issues).
Abstract: This paper presents a detailed bifurcation analysis of real multiparameter power systems. Equilibrium points are used to evaluate the system eigenvalues, obtain different bifurcation diagrams, and evaluate the stability for two systems (i.e., a simple theoretical system to illustrate the basic concepts and highlight the main issues) and the southern section of the Brazilian network to demonstrate how these ideas can be applied to a real power system. The paper studies the influence of soft and hard-limits and automatic voltage regulators (AVR) droop on the systems, using detailed generator models. The stability regions and the effect that various parameters and bifurcations have on them are studied in detail.
