TL;DR: In this article, a simple and accurate photovoltaic generator exhibits a nonlinear i-v characteristic and its operating point depends on the nature of the connected load and solar insolation.
Abstract: The photovoltaic (PV) generator exhibits a nonlinear i-v characteristic and its operating point depends on the nature of the connected load and solar insolation In this article a simple and accurate PV model suitable for circuit-oriented simulator, PSIM, is developed Necessary theory and mathematical treatment for the solar cell array model is discussed To verify the model, i-v characteristics are generated through simulation for different solar insolations and compared with the experimentally obtained characteristics The developed circuit models are integrated into the PV system and as an example a maximum power (MP) point tracking of PV system with dc-dc converter is considered here Simulation and experimental result are in close agreement with each other This verifies the accuracy and suitability of the developed circuit-oriented models

TL;DR: In this paper, genetic algorithm methods are applied to adjust autoregressive moving-average time series models in order to simulate correlated hourly wind speeds with specified wind speed cross-correlation coefficients of two wind sites.
Abstract: Wind power is an important renewable energy resource. Electrical power generation from wind energy behaves quite differently from that of conventional sources, and maintaining a reliable power supply is an important issue in power systems containing wind energy. In these systems, the wind speeds at different wind sites are correlated to some degree if the distances between the sites are not very large. Genetic algorithm methods are applied here to adjust autoregressive moving-average time series models in order to simulate correlated hourly wind speeds with specified wind speed cross-correlation coefficients of two wind sites. Multi-state wind energy conversion system models are used to incorporate the correlated wind farms in reliability studies of generating systems. A method to generate random numbers with specified correlation coefficients for application in a state-sampling Monte Carlo simulation technique is introduced. It is shown that the proposed method can be used in the adequacy assessment of a generating system incorporating partially dependent wind farms.

TL;DR: In this paper, a local power point optimizer is configured to determine an optimum operating condition for a corresponding group of solar cells, which is then adjusted by modulating a transistor, such as by pulse width modulation, to electrically disconnect the group from the installation.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a solar cell installation includes several groups of solar cells. Each group of solar cells has a local power point optimizer configured to control power generation of the group. The local power point optimizer may be configured to determine an optimum operating condition for a corresponding group of solar cells. The local power point optimizer may adjust the operating condition of the group to the optimum operating condition by modulating a transistor, such as by pulse width modulation, to electrically connect and disconnect the group from the installation. The local power point optimizer may be used in conjunction with a global maximum power point tracking module.

TL;DR: In this paper, a solar cell power source device is presented which optimizes the power output of the solar cell by detecting a maximum power point and controlling the duty cycle of a switching transistor in a switching power converter.
Abstract: A solar cell power source device is disclosed which optimizes the power output of the solar cell by detecting a maximum power point of the solar cell and controlling the duty cycle of a switching transistor in a switching power converter such that the output current of the solar cell follows the maximum power point. Also shown is a pulse width modulation controller which multiplies the output voltage of the solar cell by the output current of the solar cell to obtain a power detecting signal, samples the power detecting signal during two different sample periods to determine if the power output is decreasing, and modulating the pulses output to the switching transistor of the switching power converter in order to maintain the power output of the solar cell at the maximum power point.

TL;DR: In this article, the integration of plug-in electric vehicles in the power systems with high wind power penetrations is proposed and discussed, and the optimal operation strategies of PEVs in the spot market are proposed in order to decrease the energy cost for PEV owners.
Abstract: The Danish power system has a large penetration of wind power. The wind fluctuation causes a high variation in the power generation, which must be balanced by other sources. The battery storage-based Plug-In Electric Vehicles (PEVs) may be a possible solution to balance the wind power variations in the power systems with high wind power penetrations. In this paper, the integration of plug-in electric vehicles in the power systems with high wind power penetrations is proposed and discussed. Optimal operation strategies of PEV in the spot market are proposed in order to decrease the energy cost for PEV owners. Furthermore, the application of battery storage based aggregated PEV is analyzed as a regulation services provider in the power system with high wind power penetrations. The western Danish power system where the total share of annual wind power production is more than 27% of the electrical energy demand is chosen as the studied case. The results show that an optimal operation of PEV in both spot market and regulation market can not only decrease the energy costs for PEV owners, but also significantly decrease the power deviations between West Denmark and Union for the Coordination of Electricity Transmission (UCTE) control areas.
