07 Jul 1998TL;DR: In this paper, the suitability of multilevel voltage source inverters for single-phase grid connected photovoltaic systems is investigated regarding issues such as component count and stress, system power rating, and the influence of the PV array earth capacitance.
Abstract: Multilevel voltage source inverters offer several advantages compared to their conventional counterparts. By synthesising the AC output terminal voltage from several levels of voltages, staircase waveforms can be produced, which approach the sinusoidal waveform with low harmonic distortion, thus reducing filter requirements. The need of several sources on the DC side of the converter makes multilevel technology attractive for photovoltaic applications. This paper provides an overview an different multilevel topologies and investigates their suitability for single-phase grid connected photovoltaic systems. Several transformerless photovoltaic systems incorporating multilevel converters are compared regarding issues such as component count and stress, system power rating and the influence of the photovoltaic array earth capacitance.

10 Dec 2002TL;DR: In this paper, the feasibility of direct current for the supply of offices and commercial facilities is analyzed by analyzing a case study, i.e., the supply to the Department of Electric Power Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden.
Abstract: This paper analyzes the feasibility of direct current for the supply of offices and commercial facilities. This is done by analyzing a case study, i.e. the supply to the Department of Electric Power Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. Voltage drop calculations have been carried out for different voltage levels. A backup system for reliable power supply is designed based on commercially available batteries. Finally, an economic evaluation of AC versus DC is performed and protection of the proposed system is briefly addressed.

TL;DR: This study reveals that the vehicles' operational constraints, such as initial acceleration and grade, can be met with minimum power rating if the power train can be operated mostly in the constant power region.
Abstract: There is a growing interest in electric and hybrid-electric vehicles due to environmental concerns. Efforts are directed toward developing an improved propulsion system for electric and hybrid-electric vehicles applications. This paper is aimed at developing the system design philosophies of electric and hybrid vehicle propulsion systems. The vehicles' dynamics are studied in an attempt to find an optimal torque-speed profile for the electric propulsion system. This study reveals that the vehicles' operational constraints, such as initial acceleration and grade, can be met with minimum power rating if the power train can be operated mostly in the constant power region. Several examples are presented to demonstrate the importance of the constant power operation. Operation of several candidate motors in the constant power region are also examined. Their behaviors are compared and conclusions are made.

15 Feb 2008TL;DR: A power reception device transmits authentication information (e.g., start code, manufacturer ID, product ID, rated power information, and resonance characteristic information) to a power transmission device before starting normal power transmission by a non-contact power transmission system as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A power reception device transmits authentication information (e.g., start code, manufacturer ID, product ID, rated power information, and resonance characteristic information) to a power transmission device before starting normal power transmission by a non-contact power transmission system. The power transmission device performs instrument authentication based on the received authentication information, and regulates the maximum transmission power is regulated to conform to a power-reception-device side rated power. The power transmission device then performs normal power transmission.

12 Jun 2005TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyze the assumptions of DC power flow, and make an attempt at quantifying these using indexes, and answer the question of how low the X/R ratio of line parameters can be, and what is the maximal deviation from the perfect flat voltage which still allows DC Power Flow to be acceptably accurate.
Abstract: In recent days almost every study concerning the analyses of power systems for market related purposes uses DC power flow. DC power flow is a simplification of a full power flow looking only at active power flows. Aspects as voltage support and reactive power management are not considered. However, such simplifications cannot always be justified and might sometimes be unrealistic. In this paper authors analyze the assumptions of DC power flow, and make an attempt at quantifying these using indexes. Among other, the paper answers the question of how low the X/R ratio of line parameters can be, and what is the maximal deviation from the perfect flat voltage which still allows DC power flow to be acceptably accurate.
