TL;DR: Leveraging the performance of the PowerPC RISC processors, a software-only realization of the CCITT H.261 video coding standard is implemented which provides good visual quality in terms of spatial quality and frame rate over a range of bit rates.
Abstract: The widespread use of teleconferencing as a major role of remote communication has until now been stymied by the costs associated with deploying specialized hardware required to achieve good performance. Another constraint has been the incompatibility among the various systems that are available. These facts coupled with the rapid increase in computational power available on desktop systems convinced us of the value of a standards-based software solution. Leveraging the performance of the PowerPC RISC processors, we have implemented a software-only realization of the CCITT H.261 video coding standard. In this paper, we will discuss the performance of the software codec which has been optimized for the Power Macintosh 8100. Over ISDN and loaded Ethernet, the codec provides good visual quality in terms of spatial quality and frame rate over a range of bit rates (less than 64 to 384 Kbits/s). We will outline the structure of the software codec and discuss its performance.© (1995) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. TL;DR: In this paper, a dual-active dual-control storage system with a management function is presented, where each storage controller comprises a path of CPU and two paths of CPUs are redundant backups to each other.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a dual-active dual-control storage system with a management function. The dual-active dual-control storage system with the management function comprises two storage controllers, wherein each storage controller comprises a path of CPU; two paths of CPUs are redundant backups to each other; each path of CPU is connected with a path of management network interface, a path of 10 gigabit network interface and a path of PCIE X4 expansion slot; and the CPUs are externally connected with a SAS controller and a SAS Expander to realize a storage unit plug-in hard disk. The dual-active dual-control storage system with the management function adopts a PowerPC processor which is low in power consumption and is high in stability and reliability of chip instruction execution efficiency; meanwhile, 2 10 gigabit network cards are arranged onboard; a redundancy function of a transmission link can be implemented by software binding; and stability and reliability of data transmission are ensured. Therefore, the dual-active dual-control storage system not only solves the problem of data loss caused by a single-point fault and implements remote monitoring, but also promotes a data read-write speed, and in addition, the service volume is balanced by management software, so that sufficient utilization of resources is implemented and meanwhile, system performance is also promoted.

TL;DR: The stand-alone model, the procedural interface used to communicate with the external world, and the implementation of the Verilog PLI interface are discussed, and uses of the models in the two modes are discussed.
Abstract: Describes an object-oriented model of the PowerPC 603 microprocessor, and the incorporation of this model into Verilog using the Programming Language Interface (PLI). The model is behavioral and written in C++. It has a stand-alone mode with an external environment simulated in C++. In the Verilog mode, this external environment is disabled and would be simulated in Verilog. This paper discusses the stand-alone model, the procedural interface used to communicate with the external world, and the implementation of the Verilog PLI interface. It also discusses uses of the models in the two modes. >

TL;DR: This paper introduces a simplified variant of the existing design of the LSU by reducing its queue sizes and uses AbsInt's aiT WCET analysis toolchain to determine the resulting WCET bounds and analysis times.
Abstract: Due to the complexity of today’s micro-architectures, the micro-architectural analysis usually constitutes the most time-consuming step in worst-case execution time (WCET) analysis. In this paper, we investigate the influence of the design of the load-store unit (LSU) in the PowerPC 7448 on WCET analysis. To this end, we introduce a simplified variant of the existing design of the LSU by reducing its queue sizes. Using AbsInt's aiT WCET analysis toolchain we determine the resulting WCET bounds and analysis times. For the modified version of the LSU with reduced queue sizes, analysis time is reduced by more than 50% on a set of benchmarks from the Malardalen suite, while there is little change in the WCET bound.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for data protection of a POWERPC cloud storage platform through an NVDIMM is proposed, which is simple, reliable and low in cost and can be widely applied in data protection.
Abstract: The invention relates to the field of cloud storage platforms, in particular to a method for achieving data protection of a POWERPC cloud storage platform through an NVDIMM. According to the method for achieving data protection of the POWERPC cloud storage platform through the NVDIMM, in the PowerPC cloud storage platform, U-Boot is modified, firmware support for the NVDIMM is added, a Linux kernel is modified, an SMB bus, a GPO and interrupt processing are used for achieving the operation support of the NVDIMM, and the NVDIMM is used by a memory management module for achieving data protection of a system in the power failure. The method is simple, reliable and low in cost, and the NVDIMM can be widely applied in data protection of the PowerPC cloud storage platform.
