Abstract: Several emerging petascale architectures use energy-efficient processors with vectorized computational units and in-order thread processing. On these architectures the sustained performance of streaming numerical kernels, ubiquitous in the solution of partial differential equations, represents a challenge despite the regularity of memory access. Sophisticated optimization techniques are required to fully utilize the Central Processing Unit (CPU). We propose a new method for constructing streaming numerical kernels using a high-level assembly synthesis and optimization framework. We describe an implementation of this method in Python targeting the IBM Blue Gene/P supercomputer's PowerPC 450 core. This paper details the high-level design, construction, simulation, verification, and analysis of these kernels utilizing a subset of the CPU's instruction set. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach by implementing several three-dimensional stencil kernels over a variety of cached memory scenarios and analyzing the mechanically scheduled variants, including a 27-point stencil achieving a 1.7x speedup over the best previously published results.

Abstract: A track signal control system based on PowerPC (Performance Optimization With Enhanced RISC-Performance Computing) configuration comprises a data interaction unit and an automatic operation control unit. The data interaction unit is formed by a data processing module with PowerPC configuration, an MVB (Multifunction Vehicle Bus) communication module, a CAN (Controller Area Network) communication module, a serial communication module and an Ethernet communication module. The device interfaces are abundant, and can extend a plurality of functions; the timeliness and the accuracy of information transmission are ensured; information interaction between devices of a train is achieved; the track signal control system based on PowerPC configuration is low in power consumption and high in reliability and has an automatic control and back production functions; and moreover, the track signal control system based on PowerPC configuration is simple in structure, convenient to operate and high in practicality.

Abstract: Background: Traditionally, sonar signal processing is performed on dedicated signal processors to meet the real-time processing requirements Recently, the computational capability in embedded general purpose processors has also multiplied with the introduction of multiple cores and vector processing units Embedded Linux is the usage of Linux kernel and various open source components in embedded systems The key advantage of Linux and open source in the embedded system is the ability to reuse components which allows to design and develop complicated products based on existing components and to have full control of the software part of the system This project is aimed at bringing up a bare multicore power architecture processor board with Embedded Linux, benchmarking it for performance and implementing a digital signal processing application exploiting multiple cores and SIMD units in each core Methods: The T4240RDB processor is developed using Yocto Project Yocto is an open embedded project used to build custom-based Linux images Next, the processor is benchmarked for its processing capabilities and then, signal processing application is done on the processor Findings: Yocto Project can be used to develop architecture-specific images as well as images can be modified and additional recipes and packages can be added The T4240RDB can easily do signal processing application Application: The T4240RDB can be integrated with the sonar subsystem and can be used for real-time data processing

Abstract: The traditional marine gas turbine control system usually used hydraulic and electrical control, which could achieve the three main functions of monitoring, control and protection. With the control requirements of the marine gas turbine continuously improved, the use of distributed digital control system was an important development direction. The digital controller was a core part of distributed digital control system. Currently, there was a plethora of low-cost commercial off-the-shelf hardware available for implementing digital controller, such as PowerPC, PLCs and PC-based boards, SoC, ASICS and so on. When considering the construction of complex distributed systems for marine power plant, the ability to rapidly integrate a variety of devices from different manufacturers is essential. In this paper, based on an open architecture, a digital controller was designed in order to verify the gas turbine distributed control system. The gas turbine distributed digital control LAN semi-physical simulation platform which includes multi-smart devices has been established and a distributed system demonstrator that has been developed to explore future distributed control systems.
