TL;DR: In this article, a method for preparation of a high-silica reinforcement-containing rubber composition by a method which involves a delayed and divided inclusion of greater than 50 percent of fatty acid salt processing aid to a rubber composition in an internal rubber mixer following completion of addition of precipitated silica and silica coupling agent in a preceding rubber mixing step.
Abstract: The invention relates to preparation of a high silica reinforcement-containing rubber composition by a method which involves a delayed and divided inclusion of greater than 50 percent of fatty acid salt processing aid to a rubber composition in an internal rubber mixer following completion of addition of precipitated silica and silica coupling agent in a preceding rubber mixing step in an internal rubber mixer. The invention further relates to a resulting rubber composition and to tires having a component thereof such as, for example, a tire tread.

TL;DR: A statistically large population of amorphous precipitated silica is substantially free of particles which are retained on a 20 mesh sieve screen, and is characterized by at least 90 percent by weight of said particles of said population being retained on 200 mesh sieving screen as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A statistically large population of particles of amorphous precipitated silica is substantially free of particles of amorphous precipitated silica which are retained on a 20 mesh sieve screen, and is characterized by at least 90 percent by weight of said particles of said population being retained on a 200 mesh sieve screen. Such a population may be produced by cracking amorphous precipitated silica particles between the textured rolls of at least one roll pair.

Abstract: Two types of precipitated silica powders modified by poly (dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) were suspended in benzyl alcohol and their rheological properties were investigated as a function of silica volume fraction, φ. The suspensions were classified into sol, pre-gel, and gel states based on the increase in φ. An increase in the degree of surface modification by PDMS caused gelation at higher φ. Plots of apparent shear viscosity against shear rate in the sol and pre-gel states of highly modified silica suspensions showed weak shear thickening behavior, while the same plots for silica suspensions with a low modification level exhibited shear thinning behavior. The dynamic moduli of hydrophobic suspensions in the pre-gel and gel states were dependent on the surface modification: the storage modulus G′ was larger than the loss modulus G″ in the linear region and these moduli increased with increasing φ, irrespective of the silica powder. The linear region of the φ range for the precipitated silica suspensi...

TL;DR: In this paper, the use of precipitated silica, pretreated by at least one organosilane hydrophobing compound, as a reinforcing filler for silicone elastomer is described.
Abstract: The invention relates to the use of a precipitated silica, pretreated by at least one organosilane hydrophobing compound or one hydrophobing silicone oil, as a reinforcing filler for silicone elastomer, the said pretreated silica being incorporated in the silicone elastomer by cold mixing and having the following features : - a BET specific surface ranging from 50 to 450 m²/g, - a water wettability lower than 80, - a sulfur content lower than 0.1 % by weight. The invention is directed to the curable silicone elastomer composition thus obtained.

TL;DR: In this paper, precipitated silica is mixed with a solution of caustic soda, water and sodium aluminate to form a mixture of the composition: 12±3 Na2 O:Al2 O3 :12±3 SiO2 :200±60 H2 O.
Abstract: Precipitated silica is mixed with a solution of caustic soda, water and sodium aluminate to form a mixture of the composition: 12±3 Na2 O:Al2 O3 :12±3 SiO2 :200±60 H2 O. This mixture was aged for 18-72 hours.
