TL;DR: In this paper, a physical layer device of the network node is configured to implement a physical level collision avoidance (PLCA) sublayer, which is used to detect, at a node in a wired local area network at least one event.
Abstract: Various embodiments relate to wired local area networks. A method may include detecting, at a node in a wired local area network at least one event. A physical layer device of the network node is configured to implement a physical level collision avoidance (PLCA) sublayer. The at least one event may include at least one of an amount of data stored in a first-in-first-out (FIFO) buffer of the node being at least a threshold amount, and a received packet being a precision time protocol (PTP) packet incurring variable delay. The method may further include emulating a collision at the node in response to the at least one detected event.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for selecting a master clock node based on a precision time protocol (PTP) and link quality is presented, which satisfies the actual selection requirement of a user, but also improves the multi-selectivity and flexibility of obtaining the master node.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method for selecting a master clock node based on a precision time protocol (PTP) and link quality. The method includes the following steps: configuring a link quality selection policy according to a link quality index, wherein the link quality index comprises link packet loss ratio, and/or time delay jitter and/or link time delay; selecting a target master clock node according to the configured link quality selection policy. The present invention also discloses a slave clock node and system for selecting a master clock node based on a PTP and link quality. The present invention not only satisfies the actual selection requirement of a user, but also improves the multi-selectivity and flexibility of obtaining the master clock node, and solves the problem that in traditional private telephonic network (PTN) a master clock node can not be selected when the master clock node does not send a notification message.

TL;DR: In this article, a time server of a server time protocol (STP) facility of a coordinated timing network (CTN) receives a primary reference time (PRT) update, with the primary-reference-time update having been determined with reference to a time source, which includes a precision-time protocol (PTP) source.
Abstract: A time server of a server time protocol (STP) facility of a coordinated timing network (CTN) receives a primary-reference-time (PRT) update, with the primary-reference-time update having been determined with reference to a time source, which includes a precision-time-protocol (PTP) source. The time server sets a primary reference time correction steering rate for the coordinated timing network based on receiving the primary-reference-time update, and broadcasts to one or more other servers of the coordinated timing network a PRT-correction-steering information block (PCSIB). The PRT-correction-steering information block includes a precision-time-protocol identifier for the time source used in determining the primary-reference-time update, and the primary-reference-time correction steering rate set by the time server.

TL;DR: Details on Precision Time Protocol including its methods of operation, transport mechanisms, message structure, security features, and various profiles for use in different industry-specific networks environment are explored.
Abstract: One of the most important packet timing protocol for next generation networks is Precision Time Protocol (PTP) defined by IEEE1588 standards for PTP version 2 (IEEE1588-2008) and PTP version 2.1 (IEEE1588-2019), respectively. The PTP is considered a step forward in comparison to other packeting timing protocol such as NTP and provides highly accurate time. Depending upon implementation, a time accuracy of 100 ns to sub-microsecond is attainable. In addition, PTP version 2.1 also supports internal and external security features making it ideal time synchronization protocol for next generation networks for different industry verticals such as 5G based Telecom network infrastructure, Smart Grid, Financial Network Services, Industrial, CATV, and Broadcast network infrastructure. This chapter explores details on PTP including its methods of operation, transport mechanisms, message structure, security features, and various profiles for use in different industry-specific networks environment.
