TL;DR: In this article, a cam gear is formed by a new tooth form curve to minimize friction by converting the slide contact of gear into the complete rolling contact by the roller and the cam gear.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain an elaborate roller cam gear assembly free from backlash. CONSTITUTION: A cam gear is formed by a new tooth form curve to minimize friction by converting the slide contact of gear into the complete rolling contact by the roller 10 and the cam gear 13, and to prevent a large force caused by a low pressure angle. When a roller pinion 11 having free-rotatable rollers 10 uniformly spaced on the periphery rotates and the rollers approach the cam gear, two or more rolling contact points are maintained. As the contact tooth form curves for the approach phase and the recess phase are symmetric with respect to the radius line, a constant turning angle velocity ratio can be maintained even in the case of rotation reversal. Thus, smooth and elaborate power transmission can be achieved free from backlash.

Abstract: The useful life of a driveshaft is determined mainly by the joints. For this reason the other component parts will not be discussed here; they can in any case be designed using the general principles of strength of materials.
