08 Sep 1999TL;DR: This paper develops a new approach based on a canonical proof of the sequent that allows handling non safe or cyclic Petri nets and structures which cannot be uniquely characterized by "sequence" and "parallel" operations.
Abstract: This paper aims to handle scenario durations of t-timed Petri nets without constructing the class graph. We use a linear logic characterization of scenarios based on the equivalence between reachability in Petri nets and provability of a class of linear logic sequents. It has been shown that it was possible to characterize a scenario with concurrency induced both by the Petri net structure and by the marking. This approach, based on the rewriting of the linear logic sequent proof, is limited because some structural concurrency cannot be expressed. In this paper we develop a new approach based on a canonical proof of the sequent. It does not explicitly characterize the scenario but it delimits its duration through an algebraic symbolic expression. It allows handling non safe or cyclic Petri nets and structures which cannot be uniquely characterized by "sequence" and "parallel" operations.

11 Nov 1990TL;DR: The knowledge regarding design flow management is described and modeled by predicate-transition Petri nets and production rules to offer a clear and flexible tool control mechanism within a CAD framework such that both static and dynamic behavior of a design flow are supported.
Abstract: The knowledge regarding design flow management is described and modeled by predicate-transition Petri nets and production rules. The approach offers a clear and flexible tool control mechanism within a CAD framework such that both static and dynamic behavior of a design flow are supported. The authors also demonstrate how different forms of knowledge can be implemented by a rule based system, OPS83, and be integrated in the HILDA CAD framework to guide the users through the design process. >

01 Jan 2010TL;DR: This research seeks to complement existing outputs of the mentioned organisations through the development of an asset management ontology, the first attempt at developing an Asset Management ontology and process architecture.
Abstract: Historically, asset management focused primarily on the reliability and maintainability of assets; organisations have since then accepted the notion that a much larger array of processes govern the life and use of an asset. With this, asset management’s new paradigm seeks a holistic, multi-disciplinary approach to the management of physical assets. A growing number of organisations now seek to develop integrated asset management frameworks and bodies of knowledge. This research seeks to complement existing outputs of the mentioned organisations through the development of an asset management ontology. Ontologies define a common vocabulary for both researchers and practitioners who need to share information in a chosen domain. A byproduct of ontology development is the realisation of a process architecture, of which there is also no evidence in published literature. To develop the ontology and subsequent asset management process architecture, a standard knowledge-engineering methodology is followed. This involves text analysis, definition and classification of terms and visualisation through an appropriate tool (in this case, the Protege application was used). The result of this research is the first attempt at developing an asset management ontology and process architecture.

11 Sep 2001TL;DR: The benefits of using multiple enabled transitions for extensions of Petri nets having quantitative notions of time and it is pointed out that what could be thought as a straightforward extension actually implies some subtle underlying semantic choices.
Abstract: This paper discusses and formalises the benefits of using multiple enabled transitions for extensions of Petri nets having quantitative notions of time It also points out that what could be thought as a straightforward extension actually implies some subtle underlying semantic choices As an example, a complete semantics for Merlin's (1974) time Petri nets is defined, based on the threshold notion

24 Jun 1996TL;DR: An animation utility was developed which made it possible to perform user-friendly CP-net simulations and occurrence graphs were used for debugging the CP-nets, reducing the amount of errors in the final implementation.
Abstract: In this paper, we present an industrial use of Coloured Petri Nets (CP-nets) in designing a security system An animation utility was developed which made it possible to perform user-friendly CP-net simulations Furthermore, occurrence graphs (also known as reachability graphs and state spaces) were used for debugging the CP-net In this way, a series of errors in the model were found and corrected The CP-net design is used as a specification of the implementation of the security system Therefore, finding errors by means of simulations and occurrence graph analysis reduces the amount of errors in the final implementation — making the software quality higher, which is the goal of the project
