Abstract: This new textbook fills an important gap in the existing literature, in that it prepares construction engineering and built environment students for their first experience of the jobsite. This innovative book integrates conceptual and hands-on knowledge of project engineering to introduce students to the construction process and familiarize them with the procedures and activities they need to operate as project engineers during their summer internships and immediately after graduation. The textbook is structured into four sections: Section A: Introductory Concepts Section B: Field Engineering Section C: Office Engineering Section D: Advanced Project Engineering The emphasis on field tasks and case studies, questions, and exercises taken from across civil works and commercial building sectors makes this the ideal textbook for introductory to intermediate courses in Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Civil and Architectural Engineering, and Construction Management degree programs.

Abstract: The invention discloses a novel construction management method based on the BIM information flow standardization. The method comprises the following steps: step 1: manufacturing a standard project BIMmodeling template; according to designed drawing materials and equipment selection conditions of specific projects, manufacturing a standard project BIM modeling template, and loading basic groups and basic components; step 2, establishing a BIM model according to the standard project BIM modeling template; step 3, manufacturing an information input template, and enabling related engineering project data to be regularly transmitted to the designed BIM model through the information input template; step 4, inputting the information and carrying out construction management. According to the invention, project engineering technicians can realize the input of the quality control, business management and construction information by means of quality control, business management and constructioninformation input templates. Meanwhile, the information is related to the construction BIM model. When needed, the data content of material management forms, quality control management forms and construction management forms are extracted respectively from the construction BIM model. The method is low in economic consumption and high in management efficiency. Based on the method, the linkage of multiple departments cooperative in function can be realized.

TL;DR: An approach to quantify ""change language"" in emails and study its relation to sentiment finds that sentiment decreases when problems or changes emerge, and increases when changes are implemented successfully.
Abstract: Changes are part of any project. Although previous research provides methods to deal with changes, understanding of changes in relation to sentiment is still unclear. This is important as people's mood can affect performance and decisions. We implement an approach to quantify ""change language"" in emails and study its relation to sentiment. We find that sentiment decreases when problems or changes emerge, and increases when changes are implemented successfully. We discuss the implications of our findings for research and project engineering practice, providing avenues for further work.

The engineering cost control method comprises the steps of extracting a project biding file, a project list and an engineering cost file which is related with cost; creating a project template which comprises all engineering components of the project engineering; endowing detailed list information in the project list to corresponding engineering components; calculating the engineering amount of the engineering components according to dimensions of the engineering components in a three-dimensional model and thedetailed list information of the corresponding engineering component; calculating the construction cost of the construction project; dividing the three-dimensional model into a plurality of construction blocks according to a construction plan, and endowing one area number to each construction block; receiving the construction picture of the construction field, and obtaining the construction progress of the current construction block according to the construction information in the construction picture; and when the construction progress does not match a preset construction progress, predicating the construction time and construction cost in finishing engineering according to the current construction progress, the residual engineering amount and reference engineering cost.

Abstract: The authors review the results of field research conducted at two US electronics firms and recommend a strategy for employing computer-aided engineering tools which maximizes the benefits while avoiding of minimizing the pitfalls. It was found that computer tool use is correlated with less innovative work when used to support engineering analysis and problem solving, and with more innovative work when used to support engineering development. Suggested reasons for this dichotomy are twofold. Computer tools can make engineers much more efficient for certain types of tasks, allowing more time to be spent in innovative pursuits. However, much of this efficiency is achieved by cloning old solutions, which in turn encourages homogeneity, stifles innovation, and biases the engineer to use a convenient but suboptimal solution. Computer tools also tend to be highly focused, constraining the bandwidth of the problem-solving process to fit the capabilities of the computer tool. >

Abstract: In the practical application of computer technology in current project management, there are several shortcomings. For example, a certain gap exists between computer hardware equipment and market demand; the quality of engineering project management software varies; engineering project management personnel have different computer application capabilities. Applying computer technology to the actual management of construction projects can realize the collection, processing and analysis of various data and information about project management, and make rational and effective use of resources. The informatized project management work coordinates with work of other groups, which drives the production efficiency of the engineering project. In the actual management process of engineering projects, computing application technology plays a decisive role.

Each project tracking unit (5) comprises a controller body (53), wherein the input end of the controller body (53) is connected with a login information receiving module (51) and a project information receiving module (54), a verification module(52) is arranged between the controller body (53) and the login information receiving module (51), and the output end of the controller body (53) is connected with an executing module (55). Projects can be efficiently tracked and managed, the implementation efficiency of project engineering is improved, meanwhile, information is backed up, losses of the information are avoided, and it is guaranteed that the projects normally run.
