TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the methodology adopted within a major Alvey project, "design to product" (DtoP), to design a series of user interfaces for a range of AI-based tools and their accompanying utilities.
Abstract: The paper describes the methodology adopted within a major Alvey project, 'design to product' (DtoP), to design a series of user interfaces for a range of AI-based tools and their accompanying utilities. It moves on to discuss some of the major issues and problems that arose during the development of these interfaces and some of the conclusions reached by the HUSAT team during the project. >

01 Jan 2005TL;DR: The experience of technical workers is rarely included in recent accounts of organizational restructuring or of the impact of high performance work techniques in manufacturing (McGovern, 1996 and 1998 provides one of the few exceptions) as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Technical workers are one of the largest occupational groups in Britain’s manufacturing sector and the largest in aerospace itself. Their role of indirectly productive workers within ‘mental’ labour (Smith, 1987) or ‘productive intellectual labour’ (Armstrong, 1987) makes them as indispensable to production and the generation of profit as productive manual workers on the shop-floor. The labour embodied in a finished aircraft or aero-engine includes the work of large numbers of scientists, design engineers, technologists, stress engineers, draughtsmen and women, estimators, production engineers, quality engineers, planners and progress chasers, plus support roles contained in project engineering, procurement, marketing, accounting, sales and customer support. It is curious, therefore, that the experience of technical workers is rarely included in recent accounts of organizational restructuring or of the impact of high performance work techniques in manufacturing (McGovern, 1996 and 1998 provides one of the few exceptions).

TL;DR: In this article, a study is made to the methodology of livestock EVM to a real project engineering in the field of road infrastructure in order to find elements to obtain timely information for decision making.
Abstract: Many of the problems that arise in project management are related to the failure to schedule and cost overruns during implementation. Not having adequate and effective to measure and control the timing tools, it is a flaw that can make a project manager, therefore, in this paper a study is made to the methodology of livestock EVM to a real project engineering in the field of road infrastructure in order to find elements to obtain timely information for decision making.

TL;DR: A model for a software engineering project course that has proven successful as the capstone of the authors' required sequence of software courses in their computer science major is presented and could be adopted and used effectively in computing and other disciplines.
Abstract: We present a model for a software engineering project course that has proven successful as the capstone of our required sequence of software courses in our computer science major. It differs from many similar courses because all teams work on the same project, defined by the instructor (not projects for "real" customers). The course's project centers on weekly "studio presentations" during which student teams present preliminary results and receive immediate feedback. This model allows us to efficiently offer a project course for over a hundred students. The nature of the project itself supports other course goals. We believe that our project course model could be adopted and used effectively in computing and other disciplines.
