TL;DR: The integration of computer design with engineering heruistics serves as a means of checks and balances to enhance engineering judgment.
Abstract: A chemical engineering design course is described. This course is innovative in two respects: (1) the use of a state-of-the-art computer system which enables students to use ASPEN at individual RISC (reduced instruction set computer) workstations and (2) the incorporation of design heuristics with which to formulate and evaluate computer designs. The integration of computer design with engineering heruistics serves as a means of checks and balances to enhance engineering judgment. This approach was used with three sets of projects: conceptual design of new processes, textbook case studies; and computer design for existing plants. >

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe ways in which faculty in technical disciplines can integrate instruction in the development of communication skills into their classrooms without becoming experts in the discipline, and discuss the preparation of report writing modules in about fifteen different engineering courses with the cooperation of the engineering faculty in those courses.
Abstract: The author describes ways in which faculty in technical disciplines can integrate instruction in the development of communication skills into their classrooms without becoming experts in the discipline. The project discussed involves the preparation of report writing modules in about fifteen different engineering courses with the cooperation of the engineering faculty in those courses. The procedure for designing a report writing module addresses the following skills required for effective report writing: determine the report writing situation; specify the purpose of the report; identify the readers for the report; establish a required outline for the report; explain the specifications for each item on the outline; specify the format of the report; prepare a checklist for the report; provide a specimen report or two; and specify additional criteria you deem appropriate. >

TL;DR: In this article, a process, model and set of lessons learned for collaborative research studies between industry and a university focused on planning for organizational issues unfamiliar to the industrial partner are discussed using Kennedy Space Center's (KSCs) project to develop an organizational transition plan.
Abstract: The contributions of this paper are a process, model and set of lessons learned for collaborative research studies between industry and a university focused on planning for organizational issues unfamiliar to the industrial partner. The process, model, and lessons learned are discussed using Kennedy Space Center's (KSCs) project to develop an organizational transition plan. Industry and a university receive complementary benefits from collaborative knowledge creation, assimilation and dissemination efforts. The model shows how the mutual quest for knowledge for the organization's projects can be integrated with a university's quest for new knowledge. The collaborative relationship attempts to balance organizational specific issues such as culture and credibility with the validity research issues. Lessons learned are given from both the industry and university participants. The paper is useful to technology management by providing a process, model and set of lessons learned to consider when developing collaborative research projects on technology management.

TL;DR: In this article, a project engineering initialization method is proposed to improve the initialization efficiency of project sub-modules and components by displaying a project information input page according to the project EE initialization instruction.
Abstract: The invention relates to a project engineering initialization method and device, computer equipment and a storage medium. The method comprises the steps of receiving a project engineering initialization instruction, and displaying a project information input page according to the project engineering initialization instruction; receiving input project basic information through the project information input page; receiving the selected project sub-modules and components through the project information input page; generating a code directory structure, a code packet structure, an interface pile code and a corresponding configuration file according to the project basic information, the project sub-module and the component through a file IO operation mode; obtaining a corresponding target dependence package from a server according to the project sub-module and the component; and packaging according to the code directory structure, the code packet structure, the interface pile code, the corresponding configuration file and the target dependency packet to obtain an initialized compressed packet. By adopting the method, the initialization efficiency can be improved.
