Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to highlight the major challenges faced by the student team while designing, building and racing the Suntrakker Solar Car, and competing in the 1993 World Solar Challenge in Australia. The author hopes that this paper will offer a glimpse of the scale of such a project, and by highlighting some of challenges, help any student group that wishes to do the same.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors address the deficiencies of current project planning systems from a concurrent engineering perspective, and propose a system which complements, rather than replaces, existing project planning techniques to enhance their utility in such an environment.
Abstract: Shortening product life cycles, reducing price and faster delivery are already the norm in manufacturing. These trends are certain to continue, with profitability being largely determined by the speed with which a company responds to market needs. This conclusion has been borne out by a number of studies. In order to meet these challenges, industry has responded by adopting new methodologies. One of these is commonly known as Concurrent Engineering (or Simultaneous Engineering). However, Concurrent Engineering (CE) radically affects the way we plan and monitor product development projects. This paper addresses the deficiencies of current project planning systems from a Concurrent Engineering perspective, and proposes a system which complements, rather than replaces, existing project planning techniques to enhance their utility in such an environment.

TL;DR: The National Institute of Standards and Technology metrology development for the semiconductor industry and its supporting infrastructure is a broad set of programs directed at many of the critical metrology needs as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: The National Institute of Standards and Technology metrology development for the semiconductor industry and its supporting infrastructure is a broad set of programs directed at many of the critical metrology needs. This paper will give examples of specific projects addressing needs in lithography, critical dimension metrology, gate dielectric characterization, interconnect materials evaluation, wafer surface inspection, mass flow controller calibration, and manufacturing support. The paper will emphasize the role collaboration with industry plays in project selection, project success, and transfer to industry.

TL;DR: eQuality is a software system based on a shell called Axotl that is being designed to support the process management life cycle and takes a knowledge acquisition approach to the development of the tool, emphasizing the importance of mediating and intermediate knowledge representations.
Abstract: Process management is a method for improving Boeing's business processes, however many aspects have been difficult to implement. eQuality is a software system based on a shell called Axotl that is being designed to support the process management life cycle. The authors take a knowledge acquisition approach to the development of the tool, emphasizing the importance of mediating and intermediate knowledge representations; and also sharing and reuse of knowledge through a layered architecture. eQuality's process documentation capability includes sketchpad views to allow the recording of informal text or graphic information. Model views are used for interactive graphical editing of on integrated business enterprise model. Analysis and simulation tools supporting process improvement are implemented with attribute, function, and task editors that make use of a user scripting language and extensible function library. A virtual project notebook is used to organize project information and help facilitate group meetings. >

TL;DR: In this article, the author describes the various construction phases of the TGV system and reviews the methods used for the economic appraisal of the projects. And the other projects under consideration are also introduced.
Abstract: With the current success of the TGV Southeast and the imminent commissioning of the TGV Atlantique, the TGV projects to be completed in France in the mid-90's, will make up a real high-speed rail system. Here, the author describes the various construction phases of this system and reviews the methods used for the economic appraisal of the TGV projects. The other projects under consideration are also introduced. >
