TL;DR: The design of a project is shown, and through students' comments how peer evaluation may increase learning is revealed, and an example of design efficiency variation as given in these projects is provided.
Abstract: We motivate and present a project based learning concept for digital electronic design. The concept is derived from our university's new vision of engineering education with emphasis on learning rather than teaching. We show the design of a project, and reveal through students' comments how peer evaluation may increase learning. Other skills necessary for engineers are also deployed in this project. Finally, we provide an example of design efficiency variation as given in these projects.

TL;DR: In this paper, the methodology for project engineering the design projects for machine design lab is presented, which illustrates the organization necessary to project manage the design project from initial design project start to the final design report generation and presentation.
Abstract: In this paper the methodology for project engineering the design projects for machine design lab is presented. The approach illustrates the organization necessary to project manage the design project from initial design project start to the final design report generation and presentation. The concepts of preliminary design, design flow and final design in contents of project engineering are discussed and examples are provided to elaborate extensively. The contents of the paper are intended for the teaching of the concepts to future engineers, "students."

TL;DR: An approach to electronics that emphasizes macroelectronics instead, with the objectives of the electronics course now focus on giving students the tools they need to create useful electronic instruments composed of functional subsystems.
Abstract: Conventional approaches to teaching electronics emphasize microelectronics. This paper describes an approach to electronics that emphasizes macroelectronics instead. The objectives of the electronics course now focus on giving students the tools they need to create useful electronic instruments composed of functional subsystems. To achieve this goal, a design project is given at the beginning of the course. The design projects are chosen to provide motivation and affirmation of course content. For example, the authors have used a power supply and a semiconductor curve tracer as example design projects in offerings at their respective universities. The experience has been positive as measured by student responses and their ability to complete useful instruments. They have also used a model corporate structure as a way to organize student efforts and to handle the support needed to ensure success. All students serve a technical role as design engineers. Depending on class size and the size of model companies desired, students vie for executive, marketing financial procurement manufacturing and technical-documentation positions.

TL;DR: In a survey of over 1000 United States Air Force engineers and project managers, this paper found that translating customer requirements into specification and statement of work form is one of the most difficult tasks to do in a program office.
Abstract: In this article we argue that the interpreter role serves an important function in the innovation of new products and processes. In our survey of over 1000 United States Air Force engineers and project managers, we found that translating customer requirements into specification and statement of work form is one of the most difficult tasks to do in a program office. In analyzing the reasons for this difficulty, we address possible concerns about the nature of the requirement's definition process. >

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe industry-sponsored student design activities in several departments of the College of Engineering at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (USA), and compare common features and point out differences.
Abstract: The objective of this paper is to describe industry-sponsored student design activities in several departments of the College of Engineering at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (USA). Student design activities have flourished in these departments for several years. This paper seeks to document the essential elements of these activities, compare common features and point out differences.
