TL;DR: The authors believe that the availability of a computer for every student in a class will enable a paradigm shift in education in the area of student testing.
Abstract: The mobile classroom project is based on a vision of the future in which students use a pen-based tablet with wireless communications as a front-end to their education-service provider. The term "mobile classroom" refers to the ability to create a virtual classroom whenever students are "tuned" in. The project involves the use of a C++ environment for hand-held devices to reach programming languages, operating systems and database systems to computer science students.

TL;DR: The fundamentals of engineering (FE) sequence at The Ohio State University consists of two courses that involve skill development applicable for all engineering disciplines, and the second course includes a new design-build project, implemented in the winter of 2004.
Abstract: The fundamentals of engineering (FE) sequence at The Ohio State University consists of two courses that involve skill development applicable for all engineering disciplines. The second course includes a new design-build project, implemented in the winter of 2004. From a curriculum standpoint, the goal has been to create a project that is challenging, sustainable, and cost-effective. Total construction time for students was reduced by providing a set of interchangeable and interlocking parts - leaving students more time to experiment with multiple designs and orientations, and to solve real-world problems. In order to ensure the use of design methods that would result in accurate models, a physics-based approach was used, and all teams had to have a paper design approved before construction. Complete project documentation, a final systems test, and an oral presentation by each team serve as culminating events for the project.

TL;DR: A pilot project for the development of versatile workstation based tutorial software to assist engineering students in visualizing and understanding important fundamental engineering concepts has led to the creation of an interactive, reasonably portable application program.
Abstract: A pilot project for the development of versatile workstation based tutorial software to assist engineering students in visualizing and understanding important fundamental engineering concepts has led to the creation of an interactive, reasonably portable application program. the current tutorial structure provides several operations for style and level of interaction. The author reports the development and early evaluation of this tutorial software for use in digital logic design and digital signal processing. Using lessons learned from the development of this system and from first evaluations of it, the development of a more comprehensive tutorial system for introductory engineering courses and engineering mathematics is discussed. >

TL;DR: This article highlights the results of Phase I of the European utility communications architecture (EurUCA), which included analysis of business processes and data flows, assessment of existing standards, specification of architecture standards, and definition of the demonstration phase of the project.
Abstract: Electric utilities all over the world are facing the need for computer system integration to reduce life-cycle cost and enhance flexibility in operation and services. Along with integration of different kinds of data traffic (control, administrative, financial, graphics, etc.), there is a trend toward network computing and sharing of data between increasingly dispersed business offices and computer systems. Development and application of standards are necessary for computer system integration in order to provide connectivity, interoperability for systems, portability, and compatibility for modules. The European utility communications architecture (EurUCA) project aims to contribute to standardization by means of a communication architecture specific to electric utilities in Europe. This article highlights the results of Phase I of the project, which included analysis of business processes and data flows, assessment of existing standards, specification of architecture standards, and definition of the demonstration phase of the project.
