TL;DR: In this paper, a fully automatic machine for non-destructive testing of projectile bodies is presented, which includes an eddy-current station for inspection for cracks or holes in the nose threads of a projectile body and an ultrasonic station for inspecting the body of the projectile from the rotating band to the bottom edge of the needle threads.
Abstract: A fully automatic machine for non-destructive testing of projectile bodies. The machine includes an eddy-current station for inspection for cracks or holes in the nose threads of a projectile body and an ultrasonic station for inspection for cracks or holes in the body of the projectile from the rotating band to the bottom edge of the nose threads. A material handling system is provided to transport the projectile bodies to and from the inspection station and a memory device is provided to record a projectile body that fails a test. A marking device is connected with the memory system to mark each projectile body that passes both tests.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors study via Monte Carlo computer simulation fluctuations of the sputtering yield and of the cascade volume associated with energetic-particle-induced collision cascades in amorphous solids.
Abstract: Many quantities associated with energetic-particle-induced collision cascades in amorphous solids show considerable fluctuations around their mean value. We study via Monte Carlo computer simulation fluctuations of the sputtering yield and of the cascade volume. Perpendicular incidence of the projectile and equal mass of projectile and target atoms are assumed. Lindhard cross sections are used mostly to allow for comparison to analytical theory, where available. Sputtering yields fluctuate strongly. These fluctuations have their origin in the fluctuations of the energy deposited near the target surface. The distribution of cascade volumes is rather broad. The mean cascade volume is up to a factor of 3 smaller than the analytical estimate.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss efforts to obtain the desired pulse shape from a compensated pulsed alternator (compulsator) when it is used as a power supply for railguns.
Abstract: In order to maximize the penetration of a projectile into a target, the acceleration on the projectile during the launch must be minimized. Low accelerations permit the design of long and slender projectiles which have better penetration capability. From this standpoint, power supplies for electromagnetic launchers must be able to provide rectangular current pulses with a high average to peak acceleration ratio. The authors discuss efforts to obtain the desired pulse shape from a compensated pulsed alternator (compulsator) when it is used as a power supply for railguns. A general theory of the pulse shaping technique is presented first. This is followed by a discussion on the tradeoffs between various equivalent generator configurations. Finally, the electromagnetic design of the compensated pulsed alternator being developed for task C of the Electromagnetic Gun Weapons System Program is presented. >
