TL;DR: A history of high-speed airbreathing propulsion ramjet engines and their respective vehicle and weapon systems developed under the support of the U.S. Navy is presented in this article.
Abstract: A history of high-speed airbreathing propulsion ramjet engines and their respective vehicle and weapon systems developed under the support of the U.S. Navy is presented. These include surface- and air-launched subsonic combustion ramjets, supersonic combustion ramjets (scramjets), and mixed-cycle ramjet/scramjet/rocket engines intended primarily for missile applications for flight speeds from Mach 2 to Mach 8. A summary of the development of the joint Department of Defense/NASA-sponsored National Aerospace Plane is also presented.

TL;DR: In this article, the design and performance details of the Chevrolet Volt electric propulsion system are presented, as well as the measured thermal, electromagnetic, and acoustic noise performances, are presented in this paper.
Abstract: This paper presents the design and performance details of the Chevrolet Volt electric propulsion system. The propulsion system has two machines: One machine is operating mostly as a motor while the other machine is operating mostly as a generator. Both machines of the Volt electric drive system are permanent-magnet ac synchronous machine types with the magnets buried inside the rotor. The motor has distributed windings. However, as opposed to a conventional stranded winding, the Chevrolet Volt motor has bar-wound construction to improve the motor performance, particularly in the low to medium speed range. At higher speed, the skin and proximity effects in the stator bars lead to increased stator winding losses but are addressed in the design. The bar-wound construction also has excellent thermal performance, in both the steady-state and transient conditions, necessary for full electric vehicle (EV) driving. The generator uses concentrated windings. The concentrated winding construction has good slot fill and short end-turn length. These features resulted in good performance in the intended operational region and were an enabler for machine packaging inside the transmission. Both the machines exhibit excellent efficiency and exceptionally smooth and quiet operation. The machine design and construction details, as well as the measured thermal, electromagnetic, and acoustic noise performances, are presented in this paper.

TL;DR: In this article, a power transmitting apparatus that uses a small configuration to efficiently carry out various forms of propulsions such as speed change propulsion and even an EV propulsion (electric propulsion) including a series type EV propulsion is presented.
Abstract: The present invention provides a power transmitting apparatus that uses a small configuration to efficiently carry out various forms of propulsions such as a speed change propulsion and even an EV propulsion (electric propulsion) including a series type EV propulsion. The power transmitting apparatus includes a clutch 8 that connects and disconnects rotation transmissions between an output shaft 1 a of an engine 1 and an input shaft 4 r of one 4 of two power distributors 4 and 5 to which a rotational drive force is transmitted by the engine 1, a clutch 9 that connects and disconnects rotation transmissions between one of two output shafts 5 c, 5 c of the power distributor 5 and a power output shaft 12, and rotation regulating means 10 and 11 that properly inhibit rotation of the input shaft 4 r of the power distributor 4 and rotation of the output shaft 5 c of the power distributor 5. Motors 6 and 7 apply torques to an output shaft 4 s of the power distributor 4 and an output shaft 5 s of the power distributor 5, respectively.
