TL;DR: In this avian model, incision of the pulley or partial flexor digitorum superficialis resection improved outcomes of tendon repairs compared with pulley closure.
Abstract: Outcomes of flexor tendon repairs in the area covered by major pulleys are often unpredictable. We performed an in vivo study to investigate biomechanical effects of pulley incision, Kapandji pulley plasty, excision of one slip of the flexor digitorum superficialis, or closure of the incised pulley on function of the profundus tendons. Both long toes (104 total) of 52 leghorn chickens were divided into four experimental groups and one control group. The pulley and flexor digitorum superficialis tendon were subjected to the above-mentioned treatments in four groups, with 22 toes per group, after tendon transection in the A2 pulley area. Eight weeks after surgery, incision of the pulley improved excursion of the flexor digitorum profundus tendon and decreased the work of digital flexion over pulley closure. Resection of the one slip of the flexor digitorum superficialis tendon had results similar to pulley incision. Kapandji pulley plasty did not increase tendon excursion and decrease the work compared with a simpler pulley incision. Adhesions were more severe with pulley plasty or closure than with pulley incision. In this avian model, incision of the pulley or partial flexor digitorum superficialis resection improved outcomes of tendon repairs compared with pulley closure. Kapandji pulley plasty did not improve the outcomes over a simple pulley incision.

TL;DR: In this article, two tensioners are used to maintain minimum tension that insure power transmission and minimize slip: dry friction or hydraulic tensioners, and an experimental device and a specific transmission error measurement method have been used to evaluate the performances of a generic transmission by determining the pulley-belt slip for these two kinds of tensioners.
Abstract: Serpentine belt drives are often used in front end accessory drive of automotive engine. The accessories resistant torques are getting higher within new technological innovations as stater-alternator, and belt transmissions are always asked for higher capacity. Two kind of tensioners are used to maintain minimum tension that insure power transmission and minimize slip : dry friction or hydraulic tensioners. An experimental device and a specific transmission error measurement method have been used to evaluate the performances of a generic transmission by determining the pulley–belt slip for these two kinds of tensioner. Transmission error between pulleys, pulley/belt slip are deduced from pulley rotation angle measurements. Results obtained show that : the use of tensioner limits belt slip on pulleys, pulley–belt slip is reachable from transmission error measurement, belt non uniform characteristics are responsible of low frequency modulations of transmission error.

Abstract: A shifter for use with a continuously variable transmission includes a grip portion and a hub portion. Specifically, the shifter is designed for use on a bicycle, but could also be used with any light vehicle. The grip portion is characterized by a rotatable adjuster that is coupled to a cable. The cable is also coupled to a hub portion. As the adjuster is rotated, the cable is pulled, in turn rotating a pulley assembly in the hub portion. As the pulley assembly is rotated, it advances a rod within a continuously variable transmission. The rod adjusts the power adjusters as described above. The grip portion is also unique in its display of information to the rider. The grip portion includes a display showing the ratio of input to output. The display also includes a filament that curves as the ration is adjusted. A high ratio renders the filament flat while the filament takes on a steep curve as the ratio is adjusted to make riding up hills easier.

TL;DR: In this article, a continuous one-dimensional model of the metal V-belt CVT was developed to understand the influence of pulley flexibility and friction characteristics on its dynamic performance.
Abstract: A continuously variable transmission (CVT) offers a continuum of gear ratios between desired limits The present research focuses on developing a continuous one-dimensional model of the metal V-belt CVT in order to understand the influence of pulley flexibility and friction characteristics on its dynamic performance A metal V-belt CVT falls under the category of friction-limited drives as its performance and torque capacity rely significantly on the friction characteristic of the contact patch between the belt element and the pulley Since the friction characteristic of the contact patch may vary in accordance with the loading and design configurations, it is important to study the influence of the friction characteristic on the performance of a CVT Friction between the belt and the pulley sheaves is modeled using different mathematical models which account for varying loading scenarios Simple trigonometric functions are introduced to capture the effects of pulley deformation on the thrust ratio and slip behavior of the CVT Moreover, since a number of models mentioned in the literature neglect the inertial coupling between the belt and the pulley, a considerable amount of effort in this paper is dedicated towards modeling the inertial coupling between the belt and the pulley and studying its influence on the dynamic performance of a CVT The results discuss the influence of friction characteristics and pulley flexibility on the dynamic performance, the axial force requirements, and the torque transmitting capacity of a metal V-belt CVT drive

TL;DR: In this article, the work of attaching a pulley and support to a body panel of a vehicle can be handled as a single part, and the pulley is attached to the body panel by a single bolt.
Abstract: In a window regulator 10, when a pin bolt 42 provisionally attached to a pulley 22 and a pulley support 54 is fastened to a door panel 14 by a nut 52, the pulley 22 and the pulley support 54 are supported on the pin bolt 42 and attached to a predetermined position on the door panel 14. Here, in the above-described provisionally attached state, the pin bolt 42 is held in the pulley 22 by pin member holding claws 74 of the pulley 22, and the pulley 22 is held in the pulley support 54 by pulley holding claws 68 of the pulley support 54. Consequently, when the pin bolt 42 is to be fastened to a body panel, the pulley 22, the pulley support 54, and the pin bolt 42 can be handled as a single part. Thus, the work of attaching a pulley and a pulley support to a body panel of a vehicle can be facilitated.
