TL;DR: This paper analyzes the limitations of conventional circular pulley joints and subsequently proposes a design methodology to synthesize a pair of variable radius pulleys to improve joint torque capacity over a large workspace.
Abstract: There is a growing interest in utilizing pneumatic artificial muscles (PAMs) as actuators for human-friendly robots. However, several performance drawbacks prevent the widespread use of PAMs. Although many approaches have been proposed to overcome the low control bandwidth of PAMs, some limitations of PAMs such as restricted workspace and torque capacity remain to be addressed. This paper analyzes the limitations of conventional circular pulley joints and subsequently proposes a design methodology to synthesize a pair of variable radius pulleys to improve joint torque capacity over a large workspace. Experimental results show that newly synthesized variable radius pulleys significantly improve position tracking performance in the enlarged workspace.

TL;DR: In this paper, a lawn mower with a prime mover mounted on a housing, including an output shaft extending into the housing, a first pulley sheave fixed to the output shaft for common rotation therewith and including an inclined surface, including a cutter blade, and a combined pulley and brake drum fixed to said cutter blade.
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a lawn mower comprising a prime mover mounted on a housing and including an output shaft extending into the housing, a first pulley sheave fixed to the output shaft for common rotation therewith and including an inclined surface, a blade assembly mounted on the output shaft for relative rotation therebetween and including a cutter blade, and a combined pulley sheave and brake drum fixed to said cutter blade, which combined pulley sheave and brake drum includes a pulley sheave portion comprising an inclined surface facing the inclined surface of the first pulley sheave and a brake drum portion, an endless member trained between the inclined surfaces, an idler pulley around which the endless member is trained and mounted on the housing for movement between a first position locating the idler pulley to remove slack from the endless belt, thereby drivingly connecting the first and second sheaves for common rotation, and a second position locating the idler pulley to permit slack in the endless member, thereby permitting relative rotation between the first and second sheaves, a brake band anchored at one end to the housing and movable between a braking position engagable with the brake drum portion and a non-braking position spaced from the brake drum portion, which brake band is fabricated of resilient material and is self-biasing into the braking position, which brake band is also connected to the idler pulley so as to bias the idler pulley to the second position, and a handle adapted to be operated by a user for displacing the idler pulley to the first position and the brake band to the non-braking position against the biasing action of the brake band.

TL;DR: In this paper, the first cover is connected to the first rail that spans at least a first portion of a first mid-region of the first side rail and cantilevers over a portion of the tread belt that provides an unstable footing.
Abstract: A treadmill deck may include a first side rail, a second side rail aligned with the first side rail, a first pulley connected to a first end of the first and second side rails, and a second pulley connected to a second end of the first and second side rails. A tread belt is disposed around the first pulley and the second pulley. Further, a first cover is connected to the first rail that spans at least a first portion of a first mid-region of the first rail and cantilevers over a portion of the tread belt that provides an unstable footing. Also, the tread belt moves with respect to the first cover.

TL;DR: In this paper, a power transmission system with variable pulley devices and a gear box is described, where the pulley device (202) is disengagably connected to the clutch device (53) by a belt.
Abstract: A power transmission system includes a motor (300) connected to a variable pulley device (302) via a uni-directional device (50') and an engine connected to a clutch device (53) via a uni-directional device (50). A pulley device (202) is disengagably connected to the clutch device (53) and connected to the variable pulley device (302) by a belt (23). A pulley device (41) is connected to the variable pulley device (302) by another belt (24) and the pulley device (41) is connected to a gear box (42). The variable pulley device (302) includes two disks (32, 33) and a threaded axle (34) connected therebetween. A movable member (31) having two inclined surfaces is movably mounted to the threaded axle (34) so that the two belts (23, 24) are separated by the movable member (31).

TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus for controlling a dynamic transmission for an automotive vehicle which adjusts a gear ratio by bringing a pulley position of a primary pulley into agreement with a target one through a hydraulic system under the feedforward and sliding mode control is provided.
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a dynamic system, for example, a continuously variable transmission for an automotive vehicle which adjusts a gear ratio by bringing a pulley position of a primary pulley into agreement with a target one through a hydraulic system under the feedforward and sliding mode control is provided. The apparatus calculates a feedforward-controlled variable in addition to a feedback-controlled variable and adjusts the pulley position of the primary pulley to a target one using the hydraulic pressure provided based on the sum of the feedforward-controlled variable and the feedback-controlled variable, thereby enhancing the robustness of the sliding mode control without causing the hunting.
