TL;DR: In this paper, a portable bed, cot or "gurney" is modified to produce an apparatus which permits movement of a patient while under full traction, accomplished by a novel arrangement of stanchions, longitudinal and cross-bars supporting pulley rope and spring arrangements which form a part of the bed to maintain the traction while the patient is being moved over considerable distances, such as in evacuation operations and similar applications.
Abstract: A portable bed, cot or "gurney" is modified to produce an apparatus which permits movement of a patient while under full traction. This is accomplished by a novel arrangement of stanchions, longitudinal and cross-bars supporting pulley rope and spring arrangements which form a part of the bed to maintain the traction while the patient is being moved over considerable distances, such as in evacuation operations and similar applications.

TL;DR: In this article, a flexible member is disposed about a non-circular track provided on the pulley assembly and secured to the drive rod for rotating a pulley as a function of movement of the drive rods.
Abstract: A device for rotating solar collectors has a pulley assembly connected to an individual solar collector of a bank of such collectors for rotating the collector in synchronization with the sun. Connected to the pulley assembly by a flexible member is a drive arrangement including a rigid drive rod mounted for reciprocating movement perpendicular to the extent of a shaft on which the collector is journaled. The flexible member is disposed about a non-circular track provided on the pulley assembly and secured to the drive rod for rotating the pulley as a function of movement of the drive rod.

TL;DR: In this article, a flexible member connecting a small subsurface float to a relatively large surface float is trained over the pulley so that the pulleys are rotated by the reciprocating flexible member as the floats rise and fall due to wave action.
Abstract: Driving apparatus operable by wave action and having a flexible member connecting a small subsurface float to a relatively large surface float. The apparatus includes spaced pulleys supported near the ocean floor by a heavy anchor with an intermediate portion of the flexible member trained over the pulleys so that the pulleys are rotated by the reciprocating flexible member as the floats rise and fall due to wave action. Rotational movement of one or both of the pulleys is transmitted to a shaft which is utilized as a power take-off shaft to drive a machine or the like.

TL;DR: In this article, a shape memory alloy (SMA) element is disposed about respective portions of the pulleys at an SMA pulley ratio, which is different from the SMA ratio used in this paper.
Abstract: A heat engine includes a first rotatable pulley and a second rotatable pulley spaced from the first rotatable pulley. A shape memory alloy (SMA) element is disposed about respective portions of the pulleys at an SMA pulley ratio. The SMA element includes first spring coil and a first fiber core within the first spring coil. A timing cable is disposed about disposed about respective portions of the pulleys at a timing pulley ratio, which is different than the SMA pulley ratio. The SMA element converts a thermal energy gradient between the hot region and the cold region into mechanical energy.

TL;DR: A wheel chair is a means for surmounting obstacles, comprising extensible legs 8 with wheels 10 at their feet ends, a link cable or the like mechanical connection actuable by a handle, 18 for lifting the wheelchair, the legs being extensible by pushing the handle forward to force the wheels 10 downwardly and lift the castors 5, and auxiliary rear wheels 31 being lowered to lift the main wheels 6 Each lever 17 is mechanically connected to bell crank 28 pivoted on the rear of a base frame member as discussed by the authors.
