TL;DR: A motorized pulley or roller as mentioned in this paper comprises a stationary roller shaft (14), a generally cylindrical drum (12) mounted for rotation about the roller shaft, and an electric drive assembly disposed inside the cylinderrical drum for rotating the drum about the rollers.
Abstract: A motorized pulley or roller (10) comprises a stationary roller shaft (14), a generally cylindrical drum (12) mounted for rotation about the roller shaft, and an electric drive assembly disposed inside the cylindrical drum for rotating the drum about the roller shaft. The motorized pulley includes an integral electrical connector (100) for connecting the roller to a power supply. The integral electrical connector includes a male connector (102) disposed in a recess formed in one end of the roller shaft. A female connector (104) which registers with the male connector is wired to the power supply. The male and female connectors allow for easy and quick replacement of the motorized rollers by untrained personnel.

09 Apr 2010TL;DR: In this paper, a robotic hand with finger drive assembly is presented, which is able to selectively apply tension to four elongated and flexible tension elements (e.g., steel cable).
Abstract: A robotic hand with finger assemblies to better simulate human hand form factors and gestures. For each finger assembly, the robotic hand includes a finger drive assembly that is operable to selectively apply tension to four elongated and flexible tension elements (e.g., steel cable). Each of the finger assemblies includes a set of links or link members that are actuated or moved by the selective tensioning/movement of the tension elements by the drive assembly. The links are interconnected with pivotal joints such that they have three degrees-of-freedom, and the finger assembly includes a set of pulleys that are supported on the links and that are arranged to provide support and to guide the tension elements through the finger assembly. The tension elements preferably extend only partially about any one of the pulleys, whereby the finger assembly utilizes "n+1" actuation with non-helical wrapping of the tension elements.

24 Feb 2004TL;DR: In this article, a method of using a collapsible exercise device to position a first end of an adjustable incline at a desired height with respect to a vertical support member is described.
Abstract: An aspect of the invention involves a method of using a collapsible exercise device including providing a collapsible exercise device; positioning a first end of an adjustable incline at a desired height with respect to a vertical support member so that the adjustable incline is at a desired inclination; moving first and second combination pulley-support and pull-up bars to a desired position; moving first and second pulleys connected to the first and second combination pulley-support and pull-up bars to a desired location; and moving a support platform along the adjustable incline through cable movement through the first and second pulleys on the combination pulley-support and pull-up bars.

TL;DR: In this paper, a belt-driven transmission for self-propelled, walking lawn mowers is presented, which is mounted on a deck of a mower between a front pair or a rear pair of wheels.
Abstract: A belt-driven transmission designed particularly for self-propelled, walking lawn mowers is provided. The transmission is mounted on a deck of a mower between a front pair or a rear pair of wheels and is driven through a pulley on the engine drive shaft and a pulley on the transmission connected by a belt. With this arrangement, the engine requires no special power take-off shaft to drive the mower. Consequently, the transmission can be universally applied to many different self-propelled lawn mowers. The new transmission can also be equipped with a deadman's clutch. Further, it can be provided with a manually-adjustable pulley of variable diameter to provide different speeds and torque for the drive shaft of the driven wheels. Also, in accordance with the invention, the drive shaft has a ratchet coupling device near each driven wheel to provide a differential effect for the wheels when the mower is being turned.

TL;DR: In this article, the steering wheel is on a swing-arm standing out laterally from the backbone, the backbone supporting the steering shaft in a position not "aimed" at the driver.
Abstract: An electric vehicle of adequate performance and range and of low cost uses a long tray of batteries easily rolled into or from a housing which also comprises a structural backbone of the car. The body provides useful space, such as a passenger compartment on both sides of the backbone, extending down to about the level of the bottom of the backbone, thereby keeping a low center of gravity, and compactness for low wind resistance. The steering wheel is on a swing-arm standing out laterally from the backbone, the backbone supporting the steering shaft in a position not "aimed" at the driver. The steering arm swings out of the way to facilitate access, and in one form of the invention the body top swings open and there are no side doors. Separate V belt drives from the motor through automatic speed-changing pulleys for each side minimize current draw on start-up and acceleration, maximize performance, ensure driving both drive wheels in slippery weather, and permit differential wheel speed on turns. Independent suspension of the drive wheels ("knee action") without universal joints is achieved by using the flexibility of the V belts to permit the driven pulley to rock out of alignment with the drive pulley.
