TL;DR: In this paper, a passively Q-switched Ho3+/Pr3+ co-doped fluoride fiber laser was demonstrated using a tungsten disulfide (WS2) saturable absorber (SA) for the first time, to the best of our knowledge.
Abstract: In this letter, we demonstrate a passively Q-switched Ho3+/Pr3+ co-doped fluoride fiber laser centered at 2865.7 nm using a tungsten disulfide (WS2) saturable absorber (SA) for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. A multilayer WS2 film was fabricated using the sulfidation grown method and then transferred onto an Au mirror to act as the cavity feedback and SA device in a linear cavity. Under a launched pump power of 318.5 mW, stable Q-switched pulses with an average output power of 48.4 mW were achieved with a pulse duration of 1.73 µs and repetition rate of 131.6 kHz, resulting in a pulse energy of 0.37 µJ. Our experimental results confirm that WS2 can be an effective nonlinear modulator that is suitable for pulse generation at the 3 µm waveband.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used calibrated capacitive probe measurements to study the fast ionization wave (FIW), nanosecond pulse discharge propagation in nitrogen and helium in a rectangular geometry channel/waveguide.
Abstract: Fast ionization wave (FIW), nanosecond pulse discharge propagation in nitrogen and helium in a rectangular geometry channel/waveguide is studied experimentally using calibrated capacitive probe measurements. The repetitive nanosecond pulse discharge in the channel was generated using a custom designed pulsed plasma generator (peak voltage 10–40 kV, pulse duration 30–100 ns, and voltage rise time ∼1 kV/ns), generating a sequence of alternating polarity high-voltage pulses at a pulse repetition rate of 20 Hz. Both negative polarity and positive polarity ionization waves have been studied. Ionization wave speed, as well as time-resolved potential distributions and axial electric field distributions in the propagating discharge are inferred from the capacitive probe data. ICCD images show that at the present conditions the FIW discharge in helium is diffuse and volume-filling, while in nitrogen the discharge propagates along the walls of the channel. FIW discharge propagation has been analyzed numerically usi...

TL;DR: In this paper, a femtosecond laser with pulse duration of 172 fs, central wavelength of 780 nm, and repetition rate of 1 kHz is used to fabricate voids.
Abstract: We propose an idea of fast cutting a display glass plate where the sample is pre-processed micromachining single shot rear-surface and internal void arrays aligned on working plane prior to glass cleaving. Single shot void morphology is investigated varying input pulse energy, focusing depth, and scanning speed. A femtosecond laser with pulse duration of 172 fs, central wavelength of 780 nm, and repetition rate of 1 kHz is used to fabricate voids.

TL;DR: The numerical results indicate the feasibility of investigating experimentally the full ultrarelativistic quantum regime of nonlinear double Compton scattering with available electron accelerator and laser technology.
Abstract: A detailed analysis of the process of two-photon emission by an electron scattered from a high-intensity laser pulse is presented. The calculations are performed in the framework of strong-field QED and include exactly the presence of the laser field described as a plane wave. We investigate the full nonlinear quantum regime of interaction with a few-cycle pulse, where nonlinear effects in the laser field amplitude, photon recoil, and the short pulse duration substantially alter the emitted photon spectra as compared to those in previously studied regimes. We provide a semiclassical explanation for such differences, based on the possibility of assigning a trajectory to the electron in the laser field before and after each quantum photon emission. Our numerical results indicate the feasibility of investigating experimentally the full ultrarelativistic quantum regime of nonlinear double Compton scattering with available electron accelerator and laser technology.

TL;DR: In this article, sealed-off pseudospark switches were developed for various pulsed power applications, such as fast electric circuits at a pulse current of the order of 100 kA in microsecond range of the pulse duration.
Abstract: The paper describes the sealed-off pseudospark switches that have recently been developed for various pulsed power applications. The switches with the trigger unit based on a flashover are intended for a use in fast electric circuits at a pulse current of the order of 100 kA in microsecond range of the pulse duration. The switches with the trigger unit based on an auxiliary glow discharge have been designed for fast current circuits with a moderate range of current (of the order of 10 kA) and high pulse repetition rate.
