TL;DR: Lattice parametrization of both finite- and infinite-response quadrature mirror filters leads to efficient implementations of orthogonal discrete wavelet transforms and allows for optimization techniques for the choice of basis.
Abstract: Based on the continuous-time wavelet transforms, transforms for the expansion of discrete-time signals are derived. Biorthogonal discrete wavelet expansions are exactly implemented in critically sampled quadrature mirror filter banks. Scale-variant pseudowavelet transforms are defined as a natural generalization. Lattice parametrization of both finite- and infinite-response quadrature mirror filters leads to efficient implementations of orthogonal discrete wavelet transforms and allows for optimization techniques for the choice of basis. >

TL;DR: In this paper, an 11-stage tree-structured filter bank that leads to wavelet packet analysis was designed and implemented, which has sufficient frequency resolution over a wide range of frequencies, while the time resolution at high frequencies satisfies the minimum time resolution for the human ear.
Abstract: For music signal segmentation, an 11-stage tree-structured filter bank that leads to wavelet packet analysis was designed and implemented. The tree-structured filter bank has sufficient frequency resolution over a wide range of frequencies, while the time resolution at high frequencies satisfies the minimum time resolution for the human ear. To improve selectivity, a new family of quadrature mirror filters (QMFs) with a narrow transition region and a low reconstruction error was implemented.

TL;DR: In this article, an approach for the design of a class of quadrature mirror filter (QMF) banks is presented based on a combination of IIR analysis filters and FIR synthesis filters.
Abstract: In this work, an approach for the design of a class of quadrature mirror filter (QMF) banks is presented based on a combination of IIR analysis filters and FIR synthesis filters. By examining the phase property of the all-pass based analysis filter, a condition on the synthesis part for a perfect reconstruction is established, making it possible to realize a nearly perfect-reconstruction (PR) filter bank by using a nonlinear-phase FIR synthesis filter. The distinct feature of the proposed mixed IIR/FIR filter bank is that it enjoys both a small reconstruction error and a low design and implementation complexity.

Abstract: Some people may be laughing when looking at you reading in your spare time. Some may be admired of you. And some may want be like you who have reading hobby. What about your own feel? Have you felt right? Reading is a need and a hobby at once. This condition is the on that will make you feel that you must read. TL;DR: In this article, a symmetric quadrature mirror filter bank with linear phase symmetry was proposed for smoothness under iteration, not for stopband rejection, which can be obtained by relaxing the filter bank orthogonality conditions.
Abstract: Symmetric quadrature mirror filters (QMFs) offer several advantages for wavelet-based image coding. Symmetry and odd-length contribute to efficient boundary handling and preservation of edge detail. Symmetric QMFs can be obtained by mildly relaxing the filter bank orthogonality conditions. We describe a computational algorithm for these filter banks which is also symmetric in the sense that the analysis and synthesis operations have identical implementations, up to a delay. The essence of a wavelet transform is its multiresolution decomposition, obtained by iterating the lowpass filter. This allows one to introduce a new design criterion, smoothness (good behavior) of the lowpass filter under iteration. This design constraint can be expressed solely in terms of the lowpass filter tap values (via the eigenvalue decomposition of a certain finite-dimensional matrix). Our innovation is to design near- orthogonal QMFs with linear-phase symmetry which are optimized for smoothness under iteration, not for stopband rejection. The new class of optimally smooth QMF filter banks yields high performance in a practical image compression system.© (1995) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
