TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that quantum computation circuits using coherent states as the logical qubits can be constructed from simple linear networks, conditional photon measurements, and small coherent superposition resource states.
Abstract: We show that quantum computation circuits using coherent states as the logical qubits can be constructed from simple linear networks, conditional photon measurements, and "small" coherent superposition resource states.

TL;DR: The results show that GQA is superior to other genetic algorithms using penalty functions, repair methods and decoders and can represent a linear superposition of solutions due to its probabilistic representation.
Abstract: This paper proposes a novel evolutionary computing method called a genetic quantum algorithm (GQA). GQA is based on the concept and principles of quantum computing such as qubits and superposition of states. Instead of binary, numeric, or symbolic representation, by adopting qubit chromosome as a representation GQA can represent a linear superposition of solutions due to its probabilistic representation. As genetic operators, quantum gates are employed for the search of the best solution. Rapid convergence and good global search capability characterize the performance of GQA. The effectiveness and the applicability of GQA are demonstrated by experimental results on the knapsack problem, which is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem. The results show that GQA is superior to other genetic algorithms using penalty functions, repair methods and decoders.

Abstract: Quantum computers hold the promise to solve certain computational task much more efficiently than classical computers. We review the recent experimental advancements towards a quantum computer with trapped ions. In particular, various implementations of qubits, quantum gates and some key experiments are discussed. Furthermore, we review some implementations of quantum algorithms such as a deterministic teleportation of quantum information and an error correction scheme.

TL;DR: In this paper, the concept of unitary 2-designs was introduced as a means of expressing operationally useful subsets of the stochastic properties of the uniform (Haar) measure on the unitary group $U({2}^{n})$ on qubits.
Abstract: We develop the concept of a unitary $t$-design as a means of expressing operationally useful subsets of the stochastic properties of the uniform (Haar) measure on the unitary group $U({2}^{n})$ on $n$ qubits. In particular, sets of unitaries forming 2-designs have wide applicability to quantum information protocols. We devise an $O(n)$-size in-place circuit construction for an approximate unitary 2-design. We then show that this can be used to construct an efficient protocol for experimentally characterizing the fidelity of a quantum process on $n$ qubits with quantum circuits of size $O(n)$ without requiring any ancilla qubits, thereby improving upon previous approaches.
