TL;DR: In this paper, an overview of Raman spectroscopy as a tool for the characterization of functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is given.
Abstract: Raman spectroscopy is one of the most extensively employed methods for the characterization of carbon nanotubes. In this review article, an overview about Raman spectroscopy as a tool for the characterization of functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) is given. First, the relevant Raman modes in SWCNTs are introduced. Then, in a phenomenological approach, the effects that are observed for the individual modes in the Raman spectra are compiled and discussed. It is shown that special care has to be taken in order to separate the effects of functionalization, which are specific to a subset of the SWCNTs (metallic/semiconducting or diameter dependent), from changes in sample morphology or doping effects. TL;DR: The present result supports the concepts that (a) a decisive scale for structural order in glasses is assuresuremath{\sim}10 \AA{}, and (b) the low-frequency excitations are defined by the characteristic length in vitreous structures.
Abstract: The correlation lengths of vitreous structures estimated from the low-frequency (boson) peak in Raman spectra and from the width of the first sharp diffraction peak are compared. This first comparison shows that the two estimates, which are based on dynamic and static properties, respectively, are in good quantitative agreement. The present result supports the concepts that (a) a decisive scale for structural order in glasses is \ensuremath{\sim}10 \AA{}, and (b) the low-frequency excitations are defined by the characteristic length in vitreous structures.

TL;DR: In the proposed system, antibodies immobilized on a solid substrate can interact with the corresponding antigens to form a composite substrate, which can capture reporter-labeled AgcoreAushell nanoparticles modified with the same antibodies.
Abstract: Layered core−shell bimetallic silver−gold nanoparticles were prepared by coating Au layers over Ag seeds by a seed-growth method. The composition of Ag100-xAux particles can vary from x = 0 to 30. TEM and SEM images clearly show that the bimetallic nanoparticles are of core−shell structure with some pinholes on the surface. Strong surface-enhanced Raman (SER) signals of thiophenol and p-aminothiophenol have been obtained with these colloids. It was found that the SERS activity of aggregated colloids critically depends on the molar ratio of Ag to Au. With the increase of the Au molar fraction, the SERS activity enhances first and then weakens, with the maximal intensity being 10 times stronger than that of Ag colloids. The AgcoreAushell nanoparticles were then labeled with monoclonal antibodies and SERS probes and used for immunoassay analysis. In the proposed system, antibodies immobilized on a solid substrate can interact with the corresponding antigens to form a composite substrate, which can capture re...

TL;DR: In this article, a correlation is developed for relating Raman stretching frequencies of molybdenum-oxygen (MoO) bonds to their respective bond distances in compounds.
Abstract: A correlation is developed for relating Raman stretching frequencies of molybdenum–oxygen (MoO) bonds to their respective bond distances in molybdenum oxide compounds. MoO bond orders are also related to stretching frequencies. The MoO correlation is expected to offer invaluable insight into the structures of molybdate species in chemical systems which are not amenable to analysis by diffraction or other spectroscopic techniques. In the present study, the correlation is used to predict stretching frequencies for perfect MoO4 and MoO6 structures, and to determine MoO bond distances of the MoO6 octahedron in Ba2CaMoO6 as well as the dehydrated surface molybdate species in MoO3/Al2O3.
