Abstract: There are many claims made but few, if any, documented successes. The trend is to move away from a single focus on alcohol to broad programmes aimed to assist management and employees with diverse problems, which may include alcoholism. The value of these in turn has not been proven. It is still useful for a company to have a policy indicating to all staff that should they seek treatment for alcohol dependence they will not be penalized, providing they adhere to the programme.'
