TL;DR: In this article, a rear-end collision prevention device is used to prevent a brake from being operated at an unexpected timing efficiently while a vehicle driver attempts to prevent rear-ending collision by means of steering operation.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent a brake from being operated at an unexpected timing efficiently while a vehicle driver attempts to prevent rear-end collision by means of steering operation in a rear-end collision prevention device for a vehicle provided with an automatic brake device. CONSTITUTION: Detection signals from a vehicle speed sensor 10, an acceleration sensor 12, a distance measuring sensor 14, a doppler sensor 16 are supplied to an ECU 18. The EUC 18 computes the first inter-vehicle distance XB which permits rear-end collision to be prevent by braking and the second inter-vehicle distance XS which permits rear-end collision to be prevented by means of steering operation based on vehicle speed, relative speed, and an inter vehicle distance. When the detected inter-vehicle distance Δ x is more than the second inter-vehicle distance XS even if it is less than the first inter-vehicle distance XB, rear-end collision is prevented by means of a driver's steering operation without operating an automatic brake device 22. The automatic brake device 22 is operated for the first time only when the inter-vehicle distance Δ x is less than XB, XS, so it is possible to inhibit the automatic brake device 22 from being operated at an unexpected timing. TL;DR: Applications of the model indicate that a collision warning system with a range of about 250 feet has the potential to reduce the number of all rear-end collisions by 50 percent and the more serious ones by over 60 percent.
Abstract: This paper describes a model for (1) studying the genesis of rear-end collisions in freeway traffic and (2) estimating the potential benefits of collision warning systems in such crashes. The model is known as REAMACS (Rear-End Accident Model and Countermeasure Simulation). REAMACS uses a quasi-Monte Carlo routine to generate the initial conditions that determine whether or not a crash occurs. Applications of the model indicate that a collision warning system with a range of about 250 feet has the potential to reduce the number of all rear-end collisions by 50 percent and the more serious ones by over 60 percent. Further, the impacts speeds of crashes that do occur are reduced by a 250-foot range system by as much as 38 percent.

TL;DR: In this article, an air bag device for an automobile is mounted on a rear package tray between a rear seat 11 and a rear window 12 and operation is controlled along with deceleration detecting operation of a decelerated sensor 8 disposed at the mounting portion of a rear bumper 7.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To protect a passenger at a rear seat from the rear end collision of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: An air bag device for an automobile is mounted on a rear package tray 13 disposed between a rear seat 11 and a rear window 12 and operation is controlled along with deceleration detecting operation of a deceleration sensor 8 disposed at the mounting portion of a rear bumper 7. Thereby, when a vehicle is collided from the rear, an air bag device 1 is operated through detection of deceleration of the deceleration sensor 8 and an air bag body 3 injected with nitrogen gas is caused to protect the head part of a passenger A at a rear seat. TL;DR: In this paper, a deceleration display lamp is mounted on the rear part of a vehicle of an automobile, a bicycle, a motorcycle, a car, and a bicycle to detect the decelerating condition of a preceding vehicle.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a collision from behind at the time of running particularly at a high speed by mounting a deceleration display lamp, lighted when a running speed is decelerated, to the rear part of a vehicle of automobile, motorcycle, etc., so as to quickly predict a decelerating condition of a preceding vehicle. CONSTITUTION:A brake lamp 3 concurrently serving as a deceleration lamp is provided in the rear part of an automobile 1, to detect its speed by a control circuit, and in the case of detecting going into a decelerating condition even a little from the present, the brake lamp 3 is controlled so as to be lighted. That is, in the case of transfer to the decelerating condition even a little by operation except operating a brake pedal such as, for instance, when detached a foot from an accelerator pedal, this decelerating condition is displayed to a driver of the following vehicle by lighting the lamp, so as to inform the driver of the following vehicle of action till its transfer to braking, and a collision from behind is prevented.

TL;DR: In this article, a brake light for vehicle which operates at a low voltage, provides cost reduction and wide view angle from the rear, and prevent the timing of lighting from being delayed.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To attain a brake light for vehicle which operates at a low voltage, provides cost reduction and wide view angle from the rear, and prevent the timing of lighting from being delayed. CONSTITUTION:A resistance 13 is connected in parallel to a brake lamp switch 12 which is connected in series to a bulb 11. Serially connected resistance 13 and the switch can be used instead of the resistance 13 alone. The switch is closed in a region where the brake lamp switch 12 is not closed when an ignition switch is turned off, or a driver touches or depresses a brake pedal. Therefore, it is possible to provided safety driving such as prevention of rear end collision, thus reducing the number of traffic accident occurrence and dead persons due to a traffic accident.
