TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed an apparatus for reducing damage to a vehicle at a rear-end collision, which absorbs impact energy due to a rear end collision between a vehicle and another vehicle by cushioning.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for reducing damage to a vehicle at a rear-end collision, which absorbs impact energy due to a rear-end collision between a vehicle and another vehicle by cushioning, and prevents or reduces damages at the rear-end collision.SOLUTION: A shock absorber 11, which can be extended and contracted between a deployment position where it protrudes rearward beyond the rear end of a vehicle 1 and a storage position forward of the deployment position, is fixed between a rear underrun protector (RUP) 4 and an RUP bracket 5. When another vehicle collides with the vehicle 1 from the rear and load is input to the RUP 4, the shock absorber 11 is contracted forward and absorbs the impact energy of a rear-end collision by cushioning. In the case of a comparatively slight rear-end collision where impact energy is almost absorbed until the shock absorber 11 is contracted up to a contraction limit position located between the deployment position and the storage position, the contraction of the shock absorber 11 is limited by the contraction limit position, so that damages to the vehicle 1 and another vehicle at the rear-end collision can be prevented.

TL;DR: In this paper, an analysis of rear-end collisions involving two or more vehicles was carried out to assist in the development of VEHICLE marking and signaling systems, by associating the RELATIONIES of SUCH INJURY-PRODUCING COLLISIONS with the action of the vehicle being stuck.
Abstract: USING THE WASHTENAW COUNTY (MICHIGAN) ACCIDENT-DATA FILES, AN ANALYSIS OF REAR-END COLLISIONS INVOLVING TWO OR MORE VEHICLES WAS CARRIED OUT TO ASSIST IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF VEHICLE MARKING AND SIGNALING SYSTEMS, BY ASSOCIATING THE RELATIVE FREQUENCIES OF SUCH INJURY- PRODUCING COLLISIONS WITH THE ACTION OF THE VEHICLE STRUCK. ON COUNTY ROADS AND CITY STREETS, VEHICLES MOVING STRAIGHT OR STOPPING WERE STRUCK ABOUT FIVE TIMES AS OFTEN AS THOSE TURNING. ON LIMITED-ACCESS HIGHWAYS, VEHICLES WERE STRUCK MOST OFTEN WHEN MOVING STRAIGHT, WITH GREATER RELATIVE FREQUENCY AT NIGHT THAN DURING DAYTIME. AT NIGHT, PARKED VEHICLES WERE STRUCK MORE OFTEN THAN TURNING VEHICLES. BETTER MARKING OR SIGNALING FOR TURNING VEHICLES WAS INDICATED ON ROADS AND STREETS, WHILE DRIVER AIDS FOR DETERMINING RELATIVE VELOCITY, CLOSURE, AND DISTANCE ARE NEEDED ON LIMITED-ACCESS HIGHWAYS. THE RECOGNITION OF PARKED VEHICLES AT NIGHT NEEDS TO BE IMPROVE. /AUTHOR/

TL;DR: In this paper, a mathematical model of the safe distance in avoiding automobile rear-end collision is set up using kinematics analytical method, combining variables such as speed, driver's state, weather state, road state of two trucks going in the same direction together.
Abstract: Combining variables such as speed, driver's state, weather state, road state of two trucks going in the same direction together, using the kinematics analytical method, the mathematical model of the safe distance in avoiding automobile rear -end collision is set up. According to the mathematical model of the safe distance, the flow diagram is educed for judge whether the car is safe from the current state or not.

TL;DR: In this paper, an anti-rear-end collision warning method based on a reverse ST-MRF vehicle tracking algorithm is proposed, which can effectively avoid the occurrence of vehicle rear end collision accidents, increase the traffic capacity of the road, and ensure the safety of driving.
Abstract: The invention discloses an anti-rear-end collision warning method based on a reverse ST-MRF vehicle tracking algorithm, and the method comprises the following steps of firstly using a reverse ST-MRF model for vehicle tracking, optimizing and fusing incomplete segmented parts for vehicle tracking when two vehicles obscure each other, and obtaining traffic information of the preceding vehicle, including the speed, acceleration and acceleration time; converting the world coordinates into pixel coordinates by using a monocular ranging method, and calculating the distance S between the preceding and following vehicles according to the focal length of a fixed focus driving recorder obtained by calibration, the parameters determined in advance, and the position of the pixel point of the precedingvehicle in the image obtained by the reverse ST-MRF model; calculating a longitudinal distance L of the warning according to a theoretical calculation model of the longitudinal safety distance for the warning of the following vehicle obtained based on driver's response characteristics and intuitive characteristics; comparing the longitudinal warning distance L with the distance S between the preceding and following vehicles, and when S is less than L, issuing a warning by the system. The anti-rear-end collision warning method based on the reverse ST-MRF vehicle tracking algorithm provided bythe invention can effectively avoid the occurrence of vehicle rear-end collision accidents, increase the traffic capacity of the road, and ensure the safety of driving.
