TL;DR: This paper introduces a collision avoidance system which is based on the vehicle-to-vehicle communication, and demonstrates the feasibility of this system in risk detection and crash avoidance.
Abstract: The rear-end collision is one of the main types of accident, and it brings unnecessary casualties and property losses. Aiming at reducing the rear-end collision, some researchers focus on the front collision avoidance system. Generally, the rear-end collision avoidance system detects risk situation based on the information collected by radar or camera. When the following car is in risk of crash, the system will inform or warn the driver that the current speed is not safe, and help drivers to decelerate or brake. With the development of vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V), a new way to develop the rear-end collision avoidance system is put forward. By using the connected vehicles, the system can collect information and share message through the communicate equipment. In this paper, the authors introduce a collision avoidance system which is based on the vehicle-to-vehicle communication. This rear-end collision avoidance is with some driver behavior by using a car-following model based on risk perception. At last, the authors provide some experimental date about collision avoidance, and demonstrate the feasibility of this system in risk detection and crash avoidance.

TL;DR: In this article, an early warning method for preventing rear-end collision with a rearward vehicle and an early-warning system thereof is proposed, wherein the method comprises the following steps.
Abstract: The invention relates to an early warning method for preventing rear-end collision with a rearward vehicle and an early warning system thereof, wherein the method comprises the following steps: 1) arranging an early warning system for preventing rear-end collision with the rearward vehicle, which comprises an information acquisition unit, a system control unit comprising a singlechip as well as an early warning execution unit; wherein, an early warning module for preventing rear-end collision with the rearward vehicle is prearranged inside the singlechip, a collision warning range and a formula calculating the collision time of the vehicles are prearranged inside the early warning module for preventing rear-end collision with the rearward vehicle; 2) acquiring the distance between the rearward vehicle and own vehicle and relative speed information and acquiring own speed information; 3) calculating time of collision TTC and a warning time threshold of collision TTC_W of the rearward vehicle and own vehicle; 4) generating a control instruction in accordance with the difference value between the calculated time threshold of collision TTC and the warning time threshold of collision TTC_W of the rearward vehicle and own vehicle as well as the prearranged collision warning range; 5) sending corresponding warning information according to the control instruction The invention can real-timely and accurately monitor the relative motion state between own vehicle and the rear vehicle that travels in the same traffic lane, thus effectually preventing the rear-end collision of the vehicles that traveling at high speed

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a warning system for possible rear-end collision of a vehicle with another vehicle preceding it using a computer, a distance sensor, and a velocity sensor.
Abstract: A warning apparatus for warning of possible rear-end collision of a given vehicle having the warning apparatus with another vehicle preceding the given vehicle includes: a computer; a distance sensor for measuring a vehicle-to-vehicle distance to the another preceding vehicle; and a velocity sensor for measuring the velocity of the given vehicle. The computer computes a relative velocity of the given and the another preceding vehicle from a differential of the vehicle-to-vehicle distance and then computes an anticipated rear-end collision time by dividing of the vehicle-to-vehicle distance by the relative velocity of the given vehicle. The computer corrects the anticipated rear-end collision time in response to an acceleration and the relative velocity. The computer produces a warning of signal and an alarm is provided in response to the corrected anticipated rear-end collision time. A method of warning of a possible rear-end collision comprises the step of: detecting a vehicle-to-vehicle distance between a given vehicle and the another vehicle preceding the given vehicle; detecting a velocity of the given vehicle; computing an anticipated rear-end collision time Ta of the given vehicle with the another vehicle, with an equation: ##EQU1## and producing a warning in response to the computed anticipated rear-end collision time Ta.

TL;DR: In this article, a system was developed that is effective in reducing the collision velocity during rear-end collisions by making up for driver delays in recognition, judgment and operation by means of brake control and external sensing technology using millmeter wave radar sensor.
Abstract: Japan has a higher rate of rear-end collisions than any other kind of traffic accident and the causes of rear-end collisions were investigated. Accident statistics were used to conduct a statistical traffic accident analysis while a questionnaire was used to conduct a detailed traffic accident analysis and simulation was then used to perform traffic accident analysis. The results of the traffic accident analysis suggested that many of these accidents were caused by lack of attention during daily driving. Research was conducted to determine what kind of collision avoidance systems would be effective. A system was developed that is effective in reducing the collision velocity during rear-end collisions by making up for driver delays in recognition, judgment and operation by means of brake control and external sensing technology using millmeter wave radar sensor. This paper will discuss the testing and development of this new system.

TL;DR: The outline of RCAS is described, techniques about the preceding vehicle recognition and collision potential hazard evaluation are described and experimental results about distance headway warning and collision avoidance by automatic braking are reported.
Abstract: RCAS (rear-end collision avoidance system) has been developed as a system of ASV (advanced safety vehicle). It is a driver assist system to avoid the rear-end collision by informing the distance headway. It also has automatic braking function in case of emergency and distance warning function to the trailing vehicle. This paper describes the outline of RCAS, techniques about the preceding vehicle recognition and collision potential hazard evaluation. And experimental results about distance headway warning and collision avoidance by automatic braking are reported.
